Galtür between Silvretta and Verwall
Galtür lies between the Silvretta and Verwall mountain ranges and combines an alpine landscape with an unusually diverse range of experiences. Those looking for a holiday apartment can choose the location according to their own interests: culture and local history, marked hiking trails, winter sports, climbing or travelling without their own car all lead to different holiday ideas.
Alpinarium and church: discovering Galtür’s culture
The Alpinarium Galtür is an adventure museum as well as an information and documentation centre. A dedicated memorial room and changing exhibitions on the dynamics of the mountain world explore topics including the folding of the Alps, climate and avalanches. The permanent exhibition “Cheese according to Marienberg” includes a film about the Zinsweg. The fully mirrored room “Spherical Coordinates” is accompanied by a three-part sound journey and creates a distinctive design accent.
The parish and pilgrimage church of Maria Geburt also tells the story of the village. The first church building was erected in 1359. After its destruction during the Engadine invasion, the parish church was rebuilt from 1622 to 1624. From 1777 to 1779, it was extended, given new vaults and renovated in the late Baroque style. Its interior includes the Gothic devotional image “Mary, Queen of the Poor”. Alongside natural experiences, Galtür therefore also offers points of interest for travellers who wish to incorporate sacred art and regional history into their days.
Hiking between panoramic trails and alpine tours
For active days on holiday, Galtür offers a 250-kilometre network of marked hiking trails. The selection ranges from easy panoramic paths to alpine summit tours. This allows daily plans to be adapted to different ideas of a mountain experience, without every trip having to follow the same rhythm. The approximately 130-kilometre Paznaun High Trail leads in nine stages through the entire Paznaun valley to Galtür.
A special feature is the Path of Reflection. It leads from Zeinis to the forest chapel and takes around two hours. Another themed trail in the municipality provides information about the historical and present-day extraction and use of water; around 1.5 hours are estimated for it. Those who prefer to focus on a specific theme rather than pure distance covered will find two different ways of experiencing the mountain landscape here.
Winter sports and climbing in Silvapark
In winter, Silvapark Galtür at an altitude of 2,295 metres is the main attraction. The winter sports area is divided into six sectors and has 43 kilometres of pistes as well as ten cable cars and lifts. The facilities include runs for alpine skiing and race snowboarding, freestyle parks, cross-country ski trails and ski touring routes. Depending on the desired activity, accommodation can therefore be chosen for a sports-focused stay or a trip combining different interests.
Silvapark at the foot of the Ballunspitze is also a bouldering area at around 1,800 metres above sea level, with 14 sectors and more than 445 routes. The Silvapark via ferrata begins at the mountain station of the Alpkogelbahn and leads to the 2,671-metre-high summit of the Ballunspitze. These facilities complement the classic hiking and winter sports options with independent mountain sports experiences.
Getting there and further travel ideas

This is an important point of reference if you do not want to plan your journey and the location of your holiday apartment exclusively around travelling by car. The International Alpine Cheese Olympics offers a culinary addition: on the event day, the public can taste and buy cheese specialities.
