Start with the kind of holiday
Choose the main purpose of the trip before comparing places: beach, nature, sport, culture, food, rest or a mixture. List the requirements that cannot change, such as step-free access, a pet-friendly policy, quiet bedrooms or space for children.

Compare the complete route
Check the journey to the property, not only the region on the map. Consider the final connection, ferry or mountain road, parking, public transport, shops and medical services. A remote cottage can be a good fit when the route and daily supplies are planned in advance.
Match the home to the routine
Compare bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen equipment, heating or cooling, outdoor space, storage and accessibility. Confirm whether a pool, garden, beach or lake is private or shared, and calculate cleaning, deposits, taxes and other extras in the total price.
Keep a realistic alternative
Weather, opening times, transport and local events change with the season. Keep one alternative activity for poor weather and compare two or three suitable regions instead of relying on a generic ranking. Explore beach holidays, short holidays and sports holidays as starting points.
