Hanam-Si brings together a range of attractions: the riverside landscape along the Han River, the summit area of Geomdansan and the history of Iseongsanseong Fortress. When planning your trip, consider whether you want to focus on the riverbank, hiking trails or culture.

Riverside, Trees and Summit Views

The Han River Ecological Park covers a riverside area of around 991,000 m² near Misa Rowing Park and preserves a largely natural ecosystem. Geomdansan is 657 m high and is considered an important mountain in Hanam-Si. Near its summit is a spacious open area with panoramic views—a different landscape from the riverside.

A 5.3 km riverside path in Misa-dong is lined with 850 zelkova trees. Namu Orphanage Urban Forest Park, covering about 89,000 m², is home to 46 tree species, including pines, plane trees, ginkgos and zelkovas. It is used for environmental education and highlights the importance of protecting nature. Riverside scenery, trees and mountain views offer different ways to experience nature in Hanam-Si.

Compare Hiking Trails on Geomdansan

Several hiking trails lead to the summit. They vary in length, approximate duration and waypoints, each giving the route its own focus:

  • The trail from Sangok Elementary School is 3.1 km long and takes about 1 hour 50 minutes. It passes the Unification Memorial Stone Tower and Gomteo Spring before reaching the summit.
  • The 4.2 km Hyunchungtap Hiking Trail takes about 2 hours and passes through Changwoo-dong, by the Animation High School, Hyunchungtap and Gopdol Spring before reaching the summit.
  • The Yugiljun Tomb Hiking Trail is 3.5 km long and takes about 1 hour 50 minutes. Along the way, it passes the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial, Yugiljun’s tomb and a scenic rock.
  • The Araet-Baealmi Hiking Trail leads from Araet Baealmi past an observation post to the summit; it is 2.9 km long and takes about 1 hour 40 minutes.
  • The Upper-Baealmi Hiking Trail is 4.7 km long and takes about 2 hours 10 minutes. Its waypoints include an observation post, a transmission tower and a trail junction.
  • The eco-friendly circular trail is 2.7 km long and takes about 1 hour. It passes Yugiljun’s tomb, the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial and Hyunchungtap, goes through a pine forest, and runs by Jeongsimsa and the former Camp Colbern site.

The eco-friendly circular trail is the shortest of the routes listed; Upper Baealmi is the longest. The trails from Sangok Elementary School and the Yugiljun Tomb each take about 1 hour 50 minutes, but differ in length and waypoints. For family trip planning, duration and stops are useful points of comparison. Check current trail information before setting out.

Fortress and History

Iseongsanseong Fortress is located in Chun-gung-dong, Hanam-Si, and dates to the Three Kingdoms period of Korea. Its walls are about 5 m high, and its circumference is approximately 2 km. Its age and dimensions give the site a distinct historical character.

The AR experience area at the fortress connects the Hanam History Museum with Iseongsanseong. The museum’s app lets visitors link museum exhibits with the fortress remains. If you plan to try this experience, check that the app is available before your visit.

Deokpung Market and Trip Planning

A description from September 2025 says Deokpung Market is a five-day market held on dates ending in 4 or 9 each month: the 4th, 9th, 14th, 19th, 24th and 29th. Stalls offered fruit, vegetables, seafood, other food products, household goods and prepared meals. Check the current calendar before planning a market visit.

When searching for a vacation rental in Hanam-Si, you can take these interests into account: decide whether riverside and forest scenery, a particular Geomdansan route, or the area’s historical and market-related attractions should shape your stay.
