Waterfalls, forested trails, and the history of a historic iron foundry give Ybycuí a distinctive character. Ybycuí National Park is located in Ybycuí District and was designated a 5,000-hectare national park in 1973 by Decree No. 32,772. The city of Ybycuí is also home to the historic iron foundry and arsenal Minas Cué, known as La Rosada. Nature and industrial history are therefore two distinct themes to consider when planning a trip.

Waterfalls in Ybycuí National Park

Salto Guaraní is one of the national park’s main attractions. Salto Escondido lies in a forested area, while Salto Minas is in an area with a rich mining history. Each name evokes a different experience: one foregrounds a waterfall in the forest, while the other connects the natural setting with the area’s mining history.

Trails of Different Lengths

The hiking trails provide clear points of reference for choosing a route based on your preferred distance. Yvaga Rape is 550 meters long and offers expansive views across the park. The La Rosada trail runs for 2,500 meters through a forested area. The Minas trail is one kilometer long and leads to an area with a rich mining history; the Guaraní trail, also one kilometer long, leads to Salto Guaraní. The Escondido trail leads to Salto Escondido.

Among the trails with a stated length, Yvaga Rape is the shortest and the La Rosada trail the longest. Minas and Guaraní fall in between at one kilometer each. These differences help you weigh the distance you want to hike against the destinations—views, forest, mining history, or a waterfall. Trail conditions can vary, so check them before setting out.

La Rosada: Industrial History in Ybycuí

La Rosada was built in 1849 during the rule of Carlos Antonio López to ensure the supply of weapons. The iron foundry produced cannons, projectiles, and bladed weapons, as well as agricultural tools. The restored iron foundry and arsenal are associated with the War of the Triple Alliance. La Rosada was declared a National Monument.

Ybycuí National Park preserves the ruins of the former La Rosada iron foundry. The visible structures in the historic area were reconstructed according to the original plans and on the original foundations. The history here encompasses both industrial production and the preserved and rebuilt structures. If you would like to include historic sites as well as nature in your trip, consider this side of Ybycuí when choosing where to stay.

Saltos Mina Nearby

The Saltos Mina near Ybycuí, about 30 kilometers from town, are distinct from the waterfalls in the national park. The waterfall is eight meters high. At its base is a natural pool suitable for swimming; the waterfall carries more water, particularly during the rainy season. Water and access conditions can vary, so it is worth checking them before visiting. This side trip can also be considered a separate nature-focused option alongside the hiking trails and the history of La Rosada.

Choose a vacation rental based on what interests you most: the historic iron foundry in town, the trails and waterfalls in the national park, or Saltos Mina nearby. Discover more destinations: Paraguari.
