Villa Florida was initially called Paso Santa María and was founded by the Jesuits in 1632. Its official founding took place on September 6, 1880. To commemorate the centenary of this official founding, a large cross was erected on the riverbank beside the church. This connects part of the town’s history with a specific memorial site.
The Villa Florida Historical Museum features images carved in stone and wood. These different materials give the works their own distinctive artistic dimension. A documented religious event also shows how water and a walking route came together on one occasion: At the patron saint’s festival on December 8, 2025, a procession traveled along the Río Tebicuary from the Costanera to Puerto Acuña. It then continued on foot for about 15 street blocks to the parish church, where a Eucharistic celebration took place. This sequence describes the celebration on that date; it does not indicate a program that takes place unchanged every year.
Costanera and Outdoor Activities
A 2020 description lists a lighted central promenade, a cycle path, sidewalks, and piers with benches along the Costanera. It also mentions a viewpoint with terraces, restrooms, a tourist information area, two squares—one covered and one open—and a parking lot.
