Santa Rosa: Park and Distinctive Monuments
Accommodation in Santa Rosa
Explore Santa Rosa through its public spaces and their varied themes. A central park offers a distinctive starting point; two monuments and a nearby marine gallery broaden the perspective from the urban setting to coastal subjects.
A Park Opposite the Market
Parque Antonio José de Sucre is in the center of Santa Rosa, opposite the market. Several monuments define the park; it also has a gazebo for outdoor events. This combination brings together different points of interest in a central location: the monuments provide lasting landmarks, while the gazebo is intended for outdoor events. Its location opposite the market also gives the park a clear reference point in the city center.
Unlike the two individually named monuments in the Amazonas and 24 de Mayo neighborhoods, the park brings together several monuments and an event gazebo. Visitors interested in public spaces and their different functions will therefore find a different focus here than at the individual monuments, each with its own specific theme.
Monuments with Different Themes
In the Amazonas neighborhood stands the Monumento a la «Capital Camaronera del Mundo». The sculpture depicts a shrimp about seven meters tall. Its subject gives the monument an unusual scale and a striking focal point. It was inaugurated in 2022, clearly linking the date of its inauguration to the monument.
The Monumento a la Mujer stands in the 24 de Mayo neighborhood. It represents the participation of women in the independence struggle of May 24. Together with the shrimp monument, it offers another thematic perspective on Santa Rosa’s monuments: here the focus is a historical depiction, while there it is the large sculpture of a shrimp. The two subjects can be distinguished by their themes and forms without combining them into a single image of a monument.
Coastal Subjects in Jambelí
There is also a marine gallery in Jambelí, near the destination. It features photographs and paintings, mainly on coastal themes, as well as sculptures made from reused marine objects and landscape images of Jambelí. Its scope thus extends beyond the monuments in the urban setting: the gallery combines different art forms with coastal themes and landscape depictions. The reused materials give the sculptures a distinctive character.
This makes for a clear distinction when comparing cultural interests: in Santa Rosa, the focus is on individual monuments and public spaces; the gallery in Jambelí brings together photographs, paintings, sculptures, and landscape images. Visitors choosing what to see based on art form can weigh these different focuses against one another.
