Culture and memory in Poá

Poá offers cultural points of interest that bring together railway history, art, and local memory. Casa da Estação served as the residence of the head of Poá railway station. Following its restoration, it now houses a cultural center with exhibitions by various visual artists. Travelers interested in art and local history will find a tangible focal point here: the former residence is also connected to a cultural offering today.

Another way to explore history is through the Obelisk. It was erected to commemorate D. Pedro I’s stay in the municipality. The Capela de Santo Antônio is another cultural landmark: on June 13, a mass in honor of Saint Anthony was celebrated there, in the central area of Poá. It is considered an important religious tradition in the municipality and a custom passed down by older residents. Artistic exhibitions, historical memory, and religious tradition therefore appeal to different interests.

Creative events and local cuisine

The Semana do Artesanato was scheduled for March 19–26, 2026. As part of the anniversary program, artisans were to be present at cultural venues. The Semana Municipal da Dança was planned for the last week of April, with dance performances, festivals, workshops, and masterclasses, as well as dance groups from the city, the region, and other places. The Feira do Livro Poaense, or Flipoá for short, was scheduled for the first week of May. Its program included talks, opportunities to meet writers, book sales, and book exchanges; there was also to be a literature week at schools. These planned events catered to a range of interests, from dance and hands-on activities to literature and exchanges with writers.

Music, handicrafts, and food were also part of the events planned for 2026. The Festa Junina – Arraiá da Gente was to run throughout June, featuring shows, an amusement park, handicraft stalls, and food from northeastern Brazilian cuisine. For Dia do Rock on July 13, shows, food trucks, handicrafts, and food, as well as the presence of craft breweries, were planned. Shows, food trucks, food products, snacks, and craft beer were also planned for the Encontro de Motoclubes on May 21. Those interested in local food culture can distinguish the specific culinary highlights mentioned here from the music and cultural events.

Activities and reasons to visit

The programs planned for March combined culture and nature in different ways. The Semana da Água was scheduled for March 22, 2026, as an ecotourism program featuring visits to mineral springs, spring areas, and caves. On March 26, a Passeio Ciclístico was to take place along cultural, historical, and ecological routes. The two events offered different options for a stay: a focus on natural sites or a cycling tour featuring cultural, historical, and ecological themes. No further information about route length or access is provided.

The dates listed, from March to July 2026, have now passed and are not indications of upcoming events. Nevertheless, the places and planned events described here can help guide your travel choices according to your interests: art and local history, religious tradition, literature and dance, music and food, or nature and cycling. If you would like to explore other destinations, you can also find Porto Ferreira, Guararema, Holambra, Canas, Boituva, Monte Alto, Paraguaçu Paulista and Campos Do Jordão here.
