Coffee history, a historic checkerboard street grid and thermal waters reveal different sides of Piratininga. The Museu do Café tells the story of coffee; at Novo Thermas de Piratininga, the described facilities include a pool with hot thermal water and a lake with an artificial beach. The history of the Estação de Piratininga and landscapes featuring hills and the Rio Batalha add to the picture. You can shape your trip around the themes that interest you most.

Three sectors to help you find your way

Piratininga’s tourist attractions are spread across the Centro Histórico e Entorno, Ecológico Rural and Bem Viver sectors. The Centro Histórico e Entorno focuses on historic buildings, squares, monuments and the city’s oldest buildings. The historic centre is also home to the Centro Cultural Profª Nirce Borro Cardoso Franco, which is listed as a tourist attraction.

The Ecológico Rural sector includes hills and the Rio Batalha. Bem Viver is home to a thermal bath, a spa and a golf course. This division gives you different themes to consider when planning: the historic cityscape, the landscape, or facilities centred on thermal waters and leisure. It also makes clear that Piratininga offers more than just one kind of attraction.

Coffee history and planning your visit

The Museu do Café focuses on the history of coffee. Breakfast and storytelling are also among its offerings; check with the museum in advance to confirm their current availability. Visits are by appointment. Some visiting days are usually available without prior booking, typically the first two Saturdays of the year. Confirm your planned visit directly with the museum before building your day’s itinerary around it.

In a city announcement dated 14 April 2025, Piratininga was included in the “Rotas do Café de SP” through the Museu do Café. The state government project aims to promote regional development and gastronomic tourism. For travellers, the museum’s coffee history is therefore also connected to a regional theme that extends beyond the individual attraction.

Cityscape and railway history

Piratininga’s historic street grid is laid out orthogonally in a checkerboard pattern. Two public streets cross this grid diagonally and lead from the lower part of the town towards the Igreja Matriz. The combination of the regular grid and diagonal streets gives the townscape a distinctive structure.

The railway’s history can also be tied to a specific date: the Estação de Piratininga opened on 25 January 1905 and was initially the terminus of the Ramal de Agudos at the time. The line ran between Pederneiras and Piratininga via Itatingui, Piatã (Espírito Santo da Fortaleza), Agudos, Taperão, Itapuã and Batalha. Together with the historic centre, this makes for a distinct focus for anyone interested in the town’s development and history.

Thermal waters, a lake and choosing where to stay

Novo Thermas de Piratininga welcomes tourists and has a pool with hot thermal water. There is also a lake with an artificial beach for fishing and leisure. Check Novo Thermas’ operating conditions again before travelling. The Bem Viver sector is home to a thermal bath, a spa and a golf course.

For a family trip, different interests may guide your choice: would you like to focus on coffee history and the cityscape, or are you particularly interested in thermal waters, the lake and the landscape? These themes can help you decide which experiences will shape your trip.
