Iacanga combines water-based activities with its own festival and cultural history. Two leisure areas with different features lie along Córrego Areão: Praia das Palmeiras is in the centre of Iacanga on the left bank, while Praia das Mangueiras is on the right bank. There is also a municipal aquarium, fishing, cycling and regional specialities. When planning your trip, it is therefore worth first asking which of these aspects of the town interests you most.

Waterfront leisure and fishing

Praia das Palmeiras is a leisure area in the centre of Iacanga. The Carnaval das Águas was also held there: the traditional festival took place at Praia das Palmeiras from 13 to 16 February 2026. If you are interested in events and the public life of a place, this festival is part of the site’s recent history; however, as a past event, it is not an indication of any future programme.

Praia das Mangueiras offers a leisure and overnight stay area for fishing and camping. Visits are by appointment. This makes it different from a trip that simply involves visiting a leisure area: if you are planning to fish or camp, you should factor the appointment into your plans. Pesqueiro JCN also organises sport fishing competitions. Iacanga therefore appeals to travellers who are specifically interested in fishing.

Another fishing-related attraction is the Festival de Pesca at Lago Municipal “José Seghimatz”. The festival welcomes more than 5,000 people there. Together with the competitions at Pesqueiro JCN, it shows that fishing in Iacanga is both a leisure activity in its own right and part of a larger event. If you are looking for a holiday rental, you can take these interests into account when deciding which experiences you want to shape your trip.

Aquarium, nature and activity

The Aquário Municipal Escola Tietê features aquariums with fish typical of the Rio Tietê. It is located in an expansive, green area that is ideal for walks, picnics, reading and learning. A visit here combines learning about fish typical of the river with different ways to spend time in green surroundings. This also makes it an interesting place for travellers seeking a quieter activity alongside festivals and fishing.

Iacanga also offers opportunities for cycling tourism. Together with walks around the aquarium, this gives you an active way to experience your stay without having to plan it around a festival or event. When choosing a holiday rental, you can consider whether cultural experiences, time in nature or fishing-related activities are most important to you. The activities mentioned cater to different interests, but do not require a set itinerary.

Traditions, culture and regional cuisine

The Festa do Peão is considered part of Iacanga’s cultural heritage and one of the region’s longest-standing events. The Festival de Águas Claras belongs to a different chapter in the town’s history: it was held at Fazenda Santa Virgínia in the 1970s, was known as the Brazilian Woodstock and shaped the region’s hippie culture. Together, these two traditions give Iacanga a cultural identity that extends beyond waterfront leisure.

The Centro Cultural Santa Cecília is intended to host further cultural experiences. The planned formats include theatre performances, music shows, music and poetry recitals, as well as film screenings. The cultural programme thus encompasses a range of art forms. A local speciality adds to these experiences: Bolinho Iacanga is a tilapia speciality created by a long-established family from Iacanga; pastry chef Monica Toledo was responsible for it. Travellers who enjoy discovering regional cuisine and local traditions will find a distinctive culinary connection to the town here.
