Barbosa invites you to discover different sides of the town: Parque da Lagoa, recreational activities on the Tietê River, local traditions, and the history of Salto do Avanhandava. Families meet in the park for picnics; by the river, there are opportunities for fishing, boat trips, and picnics. If you are looking for a vacation rental, these interests can help you decide what you would like to focus on during your stay.

Parque da Lagoa

Parque da Lagoa has a pet park and a children’s playground. Families meet there for picnics, and visitors can watch capuchin monkeys, birds, and ducks. The park brings together a range of experiences: play, sharing a picnic, and watching wildlife. This gives you a distinct focus for planning your day, separate from the activities by the river. Those traveling with children will find plenty to engage them here, without limiting their visit to a single activity.

Recreation on the Tietê River

The Tietê River offers opportunities for fishing and boat trips in Barbosa; there are also picnic areas. Fishing and a boat trip offer different experiences, while a picnic provides another way to spend time together by the river. You can organize your plans for the day according to the kind of experience you want. When choosing a vacation rental, you can also consider whether the river activities or Parque da Lagoa will play a bigger part in your stay.

Salto do Avanhandava and the history of Barbosa

Salto do Avanhandava is part of Barbosa’s history. The former waterfall lay 30 meters below the level of the Tietê River and drew tourists and anglers to Barbosa for many decades, until 1982. Its history links the area’s distinctive riverside setting with its former appeal to visitors. The story of Salto thus adds a historical perspective to the recreational opportunities on the Tietê.

Patron saint and Cavalgada

Nossa Senhora Aparecida is the patron saint of Barbosa. The Cavalgada da Independência is also on the municipality’s event calendar and is a traditional event in Barbosa. The 2025 edition brought together tropeiros and the entourage of Dito Pereira. If you would like to plan your trip around the Cavalgada, check the event dates for your travel period. This lets you take the event date into account when planning without assuming a particular edition or date.

Peixada and getting there

A local culinary specialty is the traditional peixada. It is served at the roadside restaurants on SP-245, the Rodovia Assis Chateaubriand, at kilometer 263. To travel from São Paulo to Barbosa, the route begins on SP-280, the Rodovia Castello Branco. The two road references serve different planning purposes: SP-280 marks the start of the journey from São Paulo, while peixada is served on SP-245 at kilometer 263. You can therefore plan your journey and local dining separately.

A geological highlight in the São Paulo destination

The wider São Paulo destination offers a different thematic highlight, too: in Itu, Parque do Varvito is a protected geological monument on the site of a former quarry. This geological focus differs from Barbosa’s river and park themes and broadens the perspective on the destination. If you want to explore themes beyond the local experiences, this contrast offers an additional regional perspective.
