The monument to Friar João Maria stands in the Água Santa district and was built between 1983 and 1989. The Monumento de Anita Garibaldi is located in Parque de Exposições Pouso do Tropeiro and was inaugurated in 2022. One of the major battles of the gaucho separatist movement between rebels and government troops took place there; Anita Garibaldi was captured during the battle. In Curitibanos, she is thus remembered both as the namesake of a monument and in connection with a historical event.
