Alfredo Wagner: Rock Trails, Water and Local History
Accommodation in Alfredo Wagner
Alfredo Wagner can be explored from two different perspectives: the municipality combines natural attractions on the slopes of the Serra Geral and trails to waterfalls with a town centre where the church, river and urban space come together. If you’re looking for a holiday rental, the kind of day you have in mind can help you choose a location: will your trip focus mainly on hikes and canyon scenery, or would you also like to include the church and riverside area in town? The places below bring these differences to life.
Hiking Trails, a Rock Crevice and a Canyon
In the municipality of Alfredo Wagner, in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, Parque Soldados Sebold is located in the Santo Anjo community on the slopes of the Serra Geral. Starting at the beginning of the Trilha Clássica, a six-kilometre hike leads to Soldados Sebold. The distance gives you a concrete reference point for planning your day. Before travelling, check the park’s current access conditions and, before setting out on the hike, check the condition of the route.
Another natural attraction lies in Lomba Alta, a rural settlement in the municipality of Alfredo Wagner: at Gruta do Poço Certo, a winding path passes through a rock crevice to a 42-metre-high waterfall. The route through the crevice makes the approach scenic in its own right; at the destination, the narrow rock passage and waterfall meet. Rappelling is also possible at the Gruta. This destination thus combines a distinctive route with another possible activity.
Cânion Arroio Leão adds an excursion along the Arroio do Leão stream to the natural attractions. A municipal tourism description from 2017 notes that the water reaches above hip height in some places. At the canyon entrance, you can take in the scenery or enter the canyon. Lázaro Steinhauser personally accompanies visitors as a guide. Confirm the current arrangements before your visit.
Church and Riverside Area in Town
In town, Igreja Bom Jesus adds a historical dimension to the focus on nature. The parish church was inaugurated in 1965. Igreja Matriz de Alfredo Wagner is on the BR-282, opposite the Rio Itajaí do Sul. The year of its inauguration places the parish church in the town’s history; its location opposite the river also provides a specific landmark.
Avenida Beira Rio also runs alongside the town centre by the Rio Itajaí do Sul. There is a long wooden deck with benches and small tables. This urban space offers a different setting from the rock trail and stream: here, the riverside location and deck provide a setting for exploring the town. The church and Avenida Beira Rio therefore offer their own points of reference if you’d like to include the town itself alongside the natural attractions.
Choose a Holiday Rental Based on Your Travel Plans
When looking for a holiday rental in Alfredo Wagner, it’s worth bearing the area’s different settings in mind. Santo Anjo and rural Lomba Alta are the reference points for the natural attractions described here; the church and Avenida Beira Rio are in town. If you’re travelling with children, you can plan your days around whether the six-kilometre hike, the route through the rock crevice, a visit to the canyon or the wooden deck by the river best suits the kind of trip you want.
