Quatis offers several facets that appeal to different interests when choosing a holiday destination: a listed church in the town centre, a market with food and handicrafts, colonial architecture in one of the municipality’s districts, and a municipal nature park. The town centre and the rest of the municipality each have a distinct character. If you’re looking for a holiday rental, you can first decide whether architecture, local traditions or nature should shape your stay.

Culture in the Town Centre and Municipality

At the heart of Quatis stands the listed Igreja Matriz de N. Sra. do Rosário. It is considered the only church in Quatis to have preserved features of its original construction. The ensemble in the district of Ribeirão de São Joaquim offers another architectural perspective: it comprises 18th-century colonial-style houses. This makes it possible to distinguish two scales of architectural heritage—a single church in the centre and several colonial houses in a municipal district.

Cultural traditions also shape the municipality. The Quatis Carnival is considered the city’s intangible cultural and tourist heritage; its recognition was published in 2025. Quilombo de Santana is recognised as part of the municipality of Quatis’s intangible historical and cultural heritage. This recognition was published on 16 October 2025. There is also an old church in the quilombo, where the Barão do Cajuru is buried. The rural community is located about 10 km from the municipal seat. Thus, a recognised tradition and a rural place of remembrance sit side by side, each with distinct cultural associations.

Market Life in Quatis

The Feira da Roça complements the architectural and cultural history with food, handicrafts and music. Visitors will find vegetables, legumes, cheese, cured meats, cachaça, honey, biscuits and medicinal plants; typical dishes, handicrafts and forró are also part of what’s on offer. Food and handmade goods take centre stage alongside a musical element. What’s available may vary by date. The Feira da Roça is listed as taking place on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; check before your visit whether these times are still current.

Nature and Orientation

The Parque Natural Municipal Horto dos Quatis adds a protected natural area to the picture. This municipal nature park, in the full-protection category, is located in the municipality of Quatis and covers approximately 30.5 hectares. Its protection category and approximate area give the natural setting a concrete scale alongside the architectural and market culture. Fonte Antônio Jacinto Sampaio Filho is the zero point of the municipality of Quatis and a tourist attraction.

Choosing the Right Focus

When looking for a holiday rental in Quatis, it’s worth considering what you want to focus on and where you’d like to stay. The church, Feira da Roça and Fonte Antônio Jacinto Sampaio Filho offer points of interest in the town centre; Quilombo de Santana and the district of Ribeirão de São Joaquim represent rural and community-based culture. The nature park adds a nature-conservation theme within the municipality. If you’re travelling with children, you can decide together whether architecture, market offerings or nature conservation are of greater interest.
