75% of Guapimirim’s area lies within environmental protection areas. The Parque Nacional da Serra dos Órgãos protects 19,855 hectares across the municipalities of Teresópolis, Petrópolis, Magé, and Guapimirim. The park therefore extends across several municipalities, and its area also includes parts of Guapimirim.

The national park offers more than 200 kilometers of hiking trails of all difficulty levels. It is also suitable for mountain sports such as climbing, hiking, and rappelling. Climbing and rappelling add further mountain sports to the hiking options. Pico do Dedo de Deus is 1,692 meters high.

Natural Landmark and Local Culture

Since 2002, Dedo de Deus has been considered a Brazilian national natural heritage site; this status was recognized by IPHAN. The height of Pico do Dedo de Deus and the recognition of Dedo de Deus as a natural heritage site are two distinct aspects of this striking natural landmark: one describes its height, the other its national protection status.

For cultural insights, it is worth visiting the Martius Visitor Center at Sede Guapimirim. It is housed in a restored 19th-century mansion. The Martius Museum in the visitor center features a permanent exhibition of photographs and information about the park. It also includes a model of the entire PARNASO area and a collection of specimens of works by the botanist Von Martius. A visit thus combines orientation to the park with insight into botanical work and the national park area.

Another nature experience is available at RPPN Fazenda Colomi in the municipality of Guapimirim: according to the management plan, ecotourism and guided tours are permitted there. Processions of Folia de Reis Estrela do Oriente also take place in Guapimirim every year. Alongside landscapes and outdoor activities, these offer a local tradition and a cultural event in the annual calendar.
