Paranavaí is known for performing arts, music and poetry, regional history and recurring events. A visit can take many different forms: you can explore the city museum’s collection, take an interest in a cultural festival, or plan your stay around an event or a Wednesday at Santuário Nossa Senhora do Carmo. Families will also find places to go, including sports areas and a children’s playground at Praça dos Pioneiros.

Theater and City History

Casa da Cultura Carlos Drummond de Andrade was inaugurated in 1986 as Paranavaí’s first performance venue. It offers a tangible link to the city’s cultural history and is especially suited to a trip centered on performances and cultural life. While its main location is being renovated, temporary operations and activities are taking place at Centro da Juventude. If you are interested in Casa da Cultura, be sure to take this current venue into account when planning your visit.

Museu Histórico, Antropológico e Etnográfico de Paranavaí explores the region’s first explorers through photographs, articles and various objects. A visit to the museum therefore offers a glimpse into the beginnings of regional history, rather than focusing solely on present-day city life. While renovations are underway, the collection is temporarily open to visitors in a building near Praça dos Expedicionários in Jardim São Jorge. The museum is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m.

Music, Literature and Events

The Festival de Música e Poesia de Paranavaí, or Femup, began in 1966. Its entries include music, short stories and poetry, bringing audiences and artists together from different parts of the country. This makes the festival a distinctive way for visitors to discover Paranavaí through literature and music. Its three categories offer different points of entry: alongside musical performances, both narrative and lyrical texts take center stage.

Annual events also include Moto Fest and Expo Paranavaí. Moto Fest brings motorcycle enthusiasts from Brazil and abroad together and features shows and other activities. Expo Paranavaí’s program includes music shows, rodeo and exhibitions of animals and machinery. The events therefore have distinctly different focuses: Moto Fest is aimed at people interested in motorcycles and shows, while Expo combines several forms of entertainment and exhibition. If one of these events is the reason for your trip, you can plan your visit around your interests.

A Wednesday at the Sanctuary, a Friday at the Square

Santuário Nossa Senhora do Carmo welcomes visitors and worshippers from various places. The Novena do Carmo takes place there every Wednesday. If you would like to discover religious traditions or include a spiritually oriented visit in your stay, this offers a recurring opportunity.

Praça dos Pioneiros has sports areas and a children’s playground. This gives families different ways to enjoy the square: some may be interested in being active, while children have their own dedicated play area. The Feira da Lua is also held there every Friday. If you plan to visit the square, you can take these regular weekly activities into account when choosing a day, without treating the sports areas, playground and market as a single offering.
