Londrina between Nature and Culture
Accommodation in Londrina
Londrina has many different facets: a botanical garden dedicated to protecting biodiversity and environmental education, museums bringing together science, art and history, and green spaces with walking trails. There is also a weekly market and cultural and sporting activities at Zerão. When planning your trip, you can weigh these highlights according to your family’s interests rather than limiting Londrina to just one kind of outing.
Green Spaces and Outdoor Activities
The Jardim Botânico de Londrina is dedicated to protecting biodiversity, scientific research, environmental education and recreation. Nature is therefore not its only focus: research and learning are also among the garden’s stated purposes. School groups, public and private institutions, universities, organisations and other interested visitors are welcomed for scheduled visits, environmental education activities, events and collaborative initiatives. So if you include a visit in your stay, you can also consider it from an environmental education perspective.
The Parque Municipal Arthur Thomas offers another way to experience nature, with a large woodland area and walking trails. Zerão puts more emphasis on physical activity. Its running track is 1,050 metres long. This means there are different ways to spend time outdoors: woodland walks and a running track with a clearly specified length. For families looking to accommodate different interests, nature, exercise and the other cultural offerings can be considered as separate highlights of the trip.
Science, Art and History
The Museu de Ciência e Tecnologia de Londrina has three sections: the Centro de Ciências, Observatório and Planetário. The museum also features more than 30 scientific experiments. With three named sections and the experiments, the visit has a clear focus on science. If you would like to include both nature and science in your trip, Londrina offers a range of ways to explore these themes.
At the Museu Histórico de Londrina “Pe. Carlos Weiss”, the building itself is part of the story: since 1986, the museum has been housed in Londrina’s former railway station. The Museu de Arte de Londrina, meanwhile, has three exhibition spaces and a courtyard for cultural events. In 1974, its building became the first public building in Paraná with modern architecture to be listed as a heritage site. Here, exhibition spaces and a venue for events come together with a notable place in architectural history.
SESC Cadeião also brings together different cultural facilities under one roof: it currently has an art gallery, classrooms, a library, an event hall and SENAC’s Café Escola. The history of the Cine Teatro Universitário Ouro Verde extends beyond its film programme. After the Universidade Estadual de Londrina bought Cine Ouro Verde in 1978, the venue was renamed and also became a place for concerts, shows, theatre productions and dance performances. Each venue has its own focus, from visual art and a library to live performances and cinema.
The Market and Community Life at Zerão
The Feira de Produtos Orgânicos takes place at Zerão on Saturdays from 08:00 to 12:00. Its regular day and hours make the market a practical addition to your day’s plans. Various community arts, cultural and sporting activities also take place in the same park. Together with the 1,050-metre running track, this gives Zerão several roles: a place for exercise, events and the Saturday market. You can plan a market visit as a separate outing; the fact that these activities share a location does not imply any particular order between them.
When looking for a holiday rental in Londrina, it helps to first organise the experiences you want from your stay, such as walks and green spaces, science, architecture and museums, or the weekly market. The city offers specific places to explore each of these interests. Which ones shape your trip depends on whether you want to prioritise nature, cultural institutions, events or a combination of these themes.
