Campo Mourão can be explored from many different angles: its traditional dish, Carneiro no Buraco, tells the story of a local tradition; cultural venues shape the cityscape; and trails in the surrounding area invite you to discover nature. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus on culinary experiences, the city’s history, events or outdoor activities.

Local cuisine and a market visit

Carneiro no Buraco is Campo Mourão’s traditional dish. Three of the city’s pioneers created it in the early 1960s. This specialty links today’s cuisine to a specific story about the place and is a great reason to explore the local food culture during your trip. Another place to visit for this is the Mercado Municipal, also known as Mercadão. Its offerings include homemade coffee and a tea room. If you enjoy filling your days with a variety of experiences, these culinary attractions complement a program of culture and nature.

Walks, trails and routes

Parque Municipal Joaquim Teodoro de Oliveira is a recreational area for walking and picnicking. Locally, it is also known as Parque do Lago or Bosque. Domingo no Lago takes place at the park’s acoustic shell: this cultural event, which features theater or music, includes performances by local artists. If you are interested in an event, you can include it as a separate item in your itinerary.

Near Campo Mourão, Parque Estadual do Lago Azul has two documented trails. Trilha Aventura is 3,200 meters long and passes along paths and a river, going by two waterfalls. Nearby Trilha Peroba is 3,850 meters long; it runs through forest and open areas, passing Cerrado remnants, a small waterfall and a large lake, as well as a tree nursery. The two routes differ in length and scenery, so you can choose based on which of the natural features mentioned interests you most. Campo Mourão also has Caminhada na Natureza and ecological trails for outdoor physical activities.

For cyclists, the Caminhos Cicláveis network comprises about 40 routes identified by cyclists that connect rural areas with the city’s tourist attractions. The approximate number of routes and the connection between urban and rural areas offer another way to plan your trip if you would like to explore Campo Mourão by bike.

Cultural venues and events

The Coreto Municipal at Praça Getúlio Vargas was built in the late 1950s and is recognized as a historic cultural heritage site of the city. Another notable landmark is Catedral São José. Founded in 1943, it is considered one of Campo Mourão’s landmarks and is among the city’s oldest religious temples.

Estação da Luz is a cultural center at Praça São José. It houses the city library’s collections, the Academia Mourãoense de Letras and the headquarters of Fundação Cultural de Campo Mourão; art exhibitions can be visited free of charge. Teatro Municipal hosts cultural performances, plays and cultural workshops. If theater is your main interest, Festival de Teatro also offers a dedicated setting: the festival lasts one week and features national and international plays in Campo Mourão.

Festa Nacional do Carneiro no Buraco takes place every July at Parque de Exposições Getúlio Ferrari. Together with the dish’s culinary significance, the festival highlights the connection between local tradition and a public event. When choosing a holiday rental in Campo Mourão, you can therefore plan your trip around whether you would most like to experience cultural venues and events, local cuisine or nature trails.

The PR-487, PR-317, BR-272, BR-158 and BR-369 highways run through Campo Mourão. Find more places to explore at Fernandes Pinheiro, Lagoa Sêca, Goiana, Superagui, Ventania, Santo Inácio, Umuarama and Ponta Grossa.
