Conceição: History on the Piancó and Rock Art

Nossa Senhora da Conceição is considered the patron saint of the municipality. The Piancó therefore figures in two historical contexts: as the location where the municipal seat was established and as the river along whose banks the early settlement grew. Rock paintings near Cachoeirinha dos Poncianos

Pedra do Letreiro, in the community of Cachoeirinha dos Poncianos in the municipality of Conceição, is part of an archaeological site with rock paintings. A preliminary archaeological record, published in 2024 and updated in 2025, identified 18 paintings. They are located both inside and on the outer surface of the rock shelter, and measure 10 to 15 centimeters. The site therefore combines a specific number with two different locations on the shelter. For trip planning, the rock art offers a distinct focus alongside the history of the Piancó.

Events with different focuses

ExpoCon 2026 offered a different focus. As an exhibition of agriculture, culture, and entrepreneurship, it welcomed more than 10,000 visitors from August 26 to 30. A course on fine cheeses and cheese products was also offered as part of ExpoCon. The cheese theme adds a specific culinary dimension to the agricultural and entrepreneurial framework.

Conceição also held a monthly handicrafts fair in 2022. That same year, a quadrilha festival was held with the municipality’s schools; the Corrida de Jegues was part of the Semana da Cidade, and the Conceição Moto Fest was also held in 2022. When Santa Claus arrived that year, popcorn, sweets, and gifts were handed out to children. These examples represent different types of events, from handicrafts and a school event to the city week, Moto Fest, and a Christmas activity.

Getting there and planning a vacation rental

According to the road overview dated September 2026, state highway PB-386 was paved for 13.6 kilometers on the stretch between Ibiara and Conceição, and for 17.1 kilometers between Conceição and the border between Paraíba and Ceará.
