Terra Santa: Legends, Culture and Festivals
Accommodation in Terra Santa
Terra Santa brings together a local origin story, religious traditions, festivals, and sporting events. The place where the city now stands was originally known as Pedra Santa. Indigenous people performed sacred rituals on a rocky headland in the lake. Terra Santa’s story thus brings together its name, water, rocks, and spiritual lore.
The Lake, Rocks, and Religious Lore
According to local tradition, women who were suffering bathed in the lake beside the rocks; the water was considered sacred. This legend places the lake, as well as the rocks, at its center and adds another religious perspective to the history of the place.
Marcha para Jesus is a Terra Santa tradition featuring a procession through the streets, prayers, hymns, and musical performances. In 2025, the procession passed through several of the city’s streets. Unlike the lore associated with the lake and rocks, this religious tradition takes the form of a procession in the urban setting. For travelers interested in religious practice, it offers another glimpse of local culture.
Festivals and Cultural Programs
Carnapovo 2026 brought together musical acts and traditional carnival groups. It was held at the intersection of Travessa São Francisco and Avenida Marcos Carvalho in the São Francisco neighborhood. Festa Agroterra 2025 took place at Parque de Exposições Manduca Bentes.
The 1st CRAS Cultural Festival was held at Praça da Bíblia in Terra Santa and ended with traditional toadas by Boi Caprichoso. Residents and visitors gathered by the river for the XXXV Festival do Cajual. The program for this edition included Futevôlei competitions and a penalty shootout; free registration was to take place on the day of the competitions.
These examples differ in their focus: Carnapovo combines carnival and music, the CRAS festival ended with traditional toadas by Boi Caprichoso, and competitions were planned for Cajual.
Sporting Events and Venues
The opening of the 2026 Terra Santa Futsal Championship took place at Ginásio Bráulio Nelson da Conceição. The 2026 Terra Santa Championship opened at Estádio Francisco Pereira, where athletes, fans, and government officials gathered. More than 400 athletes aged six to 14 took part in the 2nd Copa da Amizade de Futsal in Terra Santa. Terra Santa’s first sports facility with artificial turf was inaugurated at the intersection of Rua Presidente Vargas and Travessa Santa Terezinha in the city center.
Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests
For your stay, you can weigh the interests behind these examples. A trip rooted in the local origin story focuses on the lake, rocks, and religious lore; a visit centered on an event, by contrast, depends on a particular procession, festival program, or sporting competition. If you are looking for a vacation rental, first decide which occasion will shape your trip.
