Marcelândia is closely connected to the Rio Manitsauá-Missu, also known as the Rio Manito. The river and its tributaries are used for fishing and excursions. These waterways include the Rio Macaco, Rio Dois Irmãos, Rio dos Patos, Rio Matrinchã, Rio Pateiro, Rio Iporã and Rio Zambé. Water is therefore a recurring theme in Marcelândia, but not the only one. The town is part of the Portal da Amazônia tourism region; at the same time, nature in the town, the surrounding area and cultural offerings shape its many different facets. When planning your trip, you could first consider whether river landscapes, nature or culture will play the biggest part in your stay.

Rivers as a guide

Boats and a ferry are used on the Rio Manito. This adds another dimension to the use of the rivers for fishing and excursions. If you plan to take the ferry, check the current schedule in advance. You can also watch the sunset from the Rio Manito: the river is associated both with activities and with an evening view. Another kind of waterscape can be found in the rivers near Serra Formosa. There are small waterfalls and rapids there; these rivers include the Pateiro, Iporã and Zambé. The waterways in the surrounding area add a distinctive feature alongside the uses of the Rio Manito.

Nature in town and the surrounding area

Parque dos Buritis is a reserve within Marcelândia. Ipê trees are also part of the townscape: they bloom throughout the town. Another of Marcelândia’s landscapes is an island at the confluence of the Tartaruga and Azul rivers. Numerous bird species can also be found in Marcelândia and the surrounding region. The connection with nature thus extends from the town itself to the wider area. This distinction is useful when planning: the reserve and the ipê blossoms are in town, while the birdlife is also found throughout the surrounding region. Waterfalls and rapids, in turn, can be found in rivers near Serra Formosa. If you are weighing up nature-related options, you can therefore distinguish between the townscape and the broader landscape.

Culture and activity

Ar Puro has a running track. Marcelândia’s cultural offerings include local and regional music festivals, as well as a municipal cinema. Balneário Pedreira and a Pesque-Pague fishing facility are located near the town. These offer a different perspective from the river landscape: activity and culture have their own locations, while the two facilities mentioned are in the surrounding area. Together, they offer a range of interests to guide your trip planning, without reducing Marcelândia to a single experience.
