Waterfalls, rapids and natural pools shape the nature experiences around Jaciara. The geological surroundings also feature mountain ridges and caves, as well as rock paintings near the city. This gives you a choice between active days by the water and insights into the region’s history—a useful guide when deciding which focus suits your trip and the location of your holiday rental.

Waterfalls and Trails around Jaciara

Cachoeira da Fumaça is in the Rio Tenente Amaral area. There are numerous waterfalls, rapids and hiking trails there, suitable for adventure sports. Cachoeira da Fumaça has a 30-metre drop and a large volume of water. Cachoeira da Mulata is another striking waterside destination: formed by the Córrego da Mulata, it is about 25 metres high and is used by local agencies for rappelling.

At Complexo da Cachoeira da Mulata, you’ll find waterfalls, cascades and natural pools. The complex also includes a lookout point and a 300-metre trail to the Rio Tenente Amaral. The MT-457 park road provides access to Cachoeira da Fumaça, Cachoeira da Mulata and several swimming spots. Estrada Parque Vereador José Caíçara, also known as Estrada Parque Cachoeira da Fumaça, is also located in the Município de Jaciara.

Other natural areas offer their own distinctive features. Cânion das Índias is at Sítio Maravilhas de Deus and forms part of the 260-hectare environmental protection area of Assentamento Plano Piloto. Vale do Chico includes several waterfalls, natural pools and a confluence of waterways. Cerrado vegetation surrounds the valley, which is fed by water from Córrego Fortaleza.

Rock Art and Culture

Vale das Perdidas, near Jaciara, is home to rock paintings depicting scenes from the daily lives of prehistoric people. The archaeological heritage is divided into seven sites. The rock inscriptions there are dated to between 2,620 and 1,610 BC. If you’d like to include early traces of human history alongside nature in your trip, this offers a different way to experience the area than visiting its waterfalls.

In Jaciara, Mirante dos Desejos Antônio Silveira da Silva adds another cultural dimension. The lookout was redesigned with an artwork by visual artist Arildo Viana and is visited by hundreds of people. Coloured ribbons symbolising wishes can be tied to the front and side railings. Centro Cultural Paulo da Costa Ferreira is also part of the city’s cultural identity and is classified as a protected cultural asset because of its cultural significance.

Choose the Right Focus

If you want waterfalls and natural areas to be at the centre of your trip, you can distinguish between the different landscapes by their features: Cachoeira da Fumaça is known for its 30-metre drop and large volume of water; Complexo da Cachoeira da Mulata also offers cascades, natural pools and the trail to the Rio Tenente Amaral. Local agencies use Cachoeira da Mulata for rappelling. Jaciara also offers swimming at waterfalls and panoramic flights over the valleys.

Vale do Chico is in Assentamento São Francisco, 19 kilometres from the centre of Jaciara, and forms part of Complexo Rio Fortaleza. If you plan to visit this area, its distance from the centre is a useful factor when choosing your holiday rental and planning your days. Several thermal-water clubs are in the neighbouring municipality of Juscimeira in Mato Grosso, 10 kilometres from the city centre. This lets you weigh up different regional focuses for your trip, while experiencing nature and cultural attractions in different ways.
