Majorlândia combines a distinctive beach landscape with a rich local culture. Dense coconut groves and white and reddish cliffs shape the scenery at Praia de Majorlândia. Sights include enormous sculptures carved into the cliffs by local artist Toinho de Carneiro. Majorlândia was founded in 1937 by Major Bruno da Silva Figueiredo.

Beach Landscape and Sea

Surfers make use of the powerful, consistent waves at Praia de Majorlândia. However, the specific sea conditions vary from day to day. The beach thus brings together two defining features: the cliffs and sculptures that shape the landscape, and the water, whose conditions cannot simply be taken for granted during your stay.

A report from December 2022 described a viewing platform on the beachfront promenade with panoramic sea views. As the condition of the facility may change, it is best to check before your visit. On February 23, 2026, the municipality inaugurated a public shower intended for use after swimming.

Crafts and Local Traditions

Majorlândia is credited as the origin of the famous bottles of coloured sand made by local artisans. At Praia de Majorlândia, Dona Bia is a master of the Labirinto craft. These two references offer different ways to explore local craft culture: one through the place credited with originating the sand bottles, the other through a master craftsman known by name.

Dance and cultural traditions are also part of the town’s character. Majorlândia is associated with the dance do Côco; Pastoril is part of the local Batuque tradition. Together with the crafts, these traditions offer a glimpse into cultural forms of expression that go beyond the beach scenery.

Food and Events

Majorlândia’s cuisine is known for its variety of seafood dishes. Pousadas, bars and restaurants are part of the town’s tourism infrastructure; fresh fish and other seafood feature prominently on local menus.

Reports on events offer different impressions: the 45th Regata de Jangadas da Praia de Majorlândia brought together jangadeiros, residents and visitors, with music, sports and art on the programme. A report from November 2025 documents this particular edition. The 2026 Carnival programme paired the beach setting with lively celebrations.

Founded in 2023, Feirinha de Major celebrated local crafts and small beach vendors. An October 2023 report described the market as taking place over several months of the year. If you are planning to visit, check the latest dates locally.

Find the Right Holiday Rental

When looking for a holiday rental in Majorlândia, you can start by considering what you want your stay to focus on: the beach landscape and its sculptures, craft traditions or local cuisine. If surfing is your main priority, factor changing sea conditions into your daily plans. Event reports, meanwhile, relate to specific editions; if you want to attend an event during your trip, it is worth checking the latest information about its dates.

If you are travelling with a range of interests, Majorlândia offers several things to consider without requiring you to base your stay around a single activity. The landscape and art offer a different focus from the cuisine and cultural traditions; current wave conditions and specific event dates each bring their own timing considerations.
