Quirinópolis combines cultural discoveries with places for exercise and observing nature. Highlights include the city’s historic churches, the botanical nature trail at the Herbário José Ângelo Rizzo/Jardim Botânico, and Chica Doida, which is closely linked to local history. When planning your trip, consider which of these different aspects interests you most: culture, outdoor activities or regional cuisine.

Churches and Culture in Quirinópolis

Igreja Matriz Nossa Senhora d’Abadia is recognised as historic cultural heritage protected by law. Igreja Mãe, known as Velha Matriz, is also part of the town’s history: it is one of the first churches in Quirinópolis. Those interested in the development of religious architecture and historical heritage will find two different points of interest for a culturally focused stay. The two churches should be considered separate attractions; the information about their histories differs.

Another cultural venue is Cine Teatro Maria Auxiliadora. It is both a cinema and a theatre, with a capacity of 450 people. Alongside the churches, it adds a venue with two functions to the city’s cultural scene. If you would like to discover both historic sites and cultural institutions on your trip, Cine Teatro adds cinema and theatre to the mix.

Botanical Garden and Outdoor Trails

Herbário José Ângelo Rizzo/Jardim Botânico combines a botanical garden with an ecological nature trail. Educational activities take place there during visits, which last about an hour. There are also mobile collections of dried plants for study purposes. The site focuses not only on plants in the garden, but also on their scientific study and interpretation. You can take the approximate visit duration into account when planning your day; it is stated to be about an hour.

If you prefer a walking trail, Parque da Liberdade has one. Bosque Municipal do Rio Preto offers other opportunities for active time: it has an outdoor gym, a playground, futsal and peteca courts, and a skate park. These facilities appeal to different interests and make the Bosque an option if you want to focus on exercise or play during your stay. The playground is a specific point of interest for families, while the sports facilities offer other activities.

Lago Sol Poente and Chica Doida

Use of Lago Sol Poente is expressly limited to viewing: fishing and swimming are prohibited. The lake is therefore not a destination for either of these activities. There are also four peteca courts there. If you are considering a visit to the lake, the courts and the clear restrictions on use are important distinctions for your plans; water activities such as swimming are not available there.

Quirinópolis also has its own culinary history: Chica Doida was created more than 70 years ago by Petronilha Ferreira Cabral, a resident of Quirinópolis. In 2022, under State Law 21.307, Chica Doida was recognised as intangible cultural heritage of the state of Goiás. The Festival Gastronômico da Chica Doida was held every two years in May; the fourth edition took place in 2018. Its origins and heritage status make Chica Doida a distinctive part of local cuisine.

When choosing a holiday rental, you can consider whether you want to include culture, botanical discoveries, sports and play facilities, or the history of Chica Doida in your trip. For more discoveries, you can also find Campinorte, Fazenda Nova, Porangatu, Anápolis, Goianápolis, São Miguel Do Araguaia, Cristalina and Marzagão here.
