Linhares offers several fascinating ways to explore its history and surroundings: a square that preserves the original layout of the town’s founding site, historic buildings, a collection on the city’s history and places along the Rio Doce. There are also Parque Municipal da Lagoa and the Linha Verde, with Lagoa do Meio and Aviso. This gives you different themes to focus on during your trip, rather than seeing Linhares only as a stopover.

The City’s History Around the Square and Rua da Conceição

Praça 22 de Agosto preserves the original layout of Linhares’s founding square. The history of the city can be explored through the design of this public square: its layout points to the town’s early form, without requiring any particular building to be the main attraction. Rua da Conceição was Linhares’s first street. It is home to Igrejinha Velha, as well as buildings dating from the 19th and 20th centuries. These different periods lend several facets to the historic cityscape.

One striking historic building is the Antiga Casa da Câmara, built in 1849, which offers a view of the Rio Doce. Today, it houses SERLIHGES’s regional office and Linhares’s historical collection. The building brings together the former city administration, regional historical research and the history of the town. Casa do Artesão also showcases a local cultural dimension: it displays and sells pieces made by artists from Linhares.

The Museu Lorenzutti offers a different perspective on the natural region. Its collection includes more than 2,000 taxidermied animals from the Atlantic Forest, as well as some marine species. The number and variety of animal groups represented make the museum a distinct attraction alongside the city’s history and handicrafts. If you are traveling with children, you could consider the collections as a possible focus for conversations about animals and nature.

The Rio Doce, Lagoons and Urban Nature

Porto do Rio Doce is in central Linhares on the riverbank and has both historical and scenic value. The river is therefore more than just a name on the map; it is a visible part of the cityscape. If you are particularly interested in the connection between the city’s history and the river, you will find a different focus here than at the historic buildings or in the Museu Lorenzutti collection.

The Linha Verde includes Lagoa do Meio and Aviso. The Lagoa do Meio neighborhood is also home to a community landing site for fishing. This specific connection adds communal use of the water to the nature-related themes. Parque Municipal da Lagoa, in turn, is an urban area for recreation, gathering and experiencing nature. When planning your trip, you can therefore consider whether you would rather focus on the city’s historic sites, the Rio Doce and the lagoons, or experiencing nature in an urban setting. The places mentioned represent different themes in Linhares; this does not imply any particular route between them.

Getting There and Choosing a Focus for Your Trip

The BR-101 is the main road connection to Linhares. A direct bus service runs from Vitória to the city’s centrally located bus station.

When looking for a vacation rental in Linhares, you can first decide what you would like to focus on: should the city’s history, with Praça 22 de Agosto, Rua da Conceição and Antiga Casa da Câmara, take center stage? Or are you more interested in the Rio Doce, the lagoons and Parque Municipal da Lagoa? This way, you can choose accommodation based on your travel interests, without assuming any particular experience or location.
