Paracuru has a coastline more than 20 km long. However, the varied landscape and cultural attractions also matter when planning your trip: Praia da Barra lies at the mouth of the Rio Curu, while the Lençóis paracuruenses are known for seasonal freshwater lagoons between the dunes. The municipality of Paracuru also includes beaches associated with surfing, diving, or distinctive landscapes. São João dos Ventos adds to this picture as a traditional cultural event.

Coast, river mouth, and seasonal lagoons

Praia da Barra lies at the mouth of the Rio Curu. This makes the meeting of the coast and the river a striking geographical feature, not just the coastline itself. If you enjoy viewing coastal landscapes in the context of river mouths, you can include this distinctive setting in your plans.

From February to April, the Lençóis paracuruenses include several cool freshwater lagoons formed between the dunes. Their appearance depends on rainfall. The lagoon landscape is therefore a seasonal consideration: if it is important to your trip, you should take rainfall conditions into account as well as the time of year. This makes it a seasonal natural attraction, distinct from the geographical features of the coast and river mouth.

Beaches with different highlights

Surfing takes place at Praia do Munguba in the municipality of Paracuru, while Praia da Bica is used for diving. Praia da Pedra Rachada is also in the municipality; its landscape features clear water, trees, and dunes. Praia das Almas is located in the municipality where a former fishing village once stood, before being swallowed by the surrounding dunes. The sunset can be viewed from the dunes of Praia das Almas.

These places offer different highlights: Munguba and Bica are associated with surfing and diving, respectively, while Pedra Rachada and Almas stand out for their landscapes. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether an activity or a landscape is more important to you. The story of the former fishing village also gives the dunes at Praia das Almas a human connection.

São João dos Ventos: Music and dance

São João dos Ventos is a traditional cultural event in Paracuru. The program includes forró and June festival dance groups, as well as performances by local artists and musical shows. Music and dance take center stage here, rather than the landscape and beach activities. If you would like to make the event the occasion for your trip, check the dates for your preferred travel period.

Choose your holiday focus when looking for accommodation

When looking for a holiday apartment in Paracuru, it is worth comparing your priorities: should a seasonal natural attraction influence your travel dates, or would you rather base your plans on surfing and diving interests or on culture? This distinction takes you from asking “What would we like to experience?” to a clearer idea of the kind of stay you are planning. If you are planning a family trip together, you can compare everyone’s preferences early on, without expecting every activity to matter equally to everyone.
