Barra de Pojuca offers several ways to experience its local character: Lagoa da Paz has ecological trails, and cultural traditions range from Samba de Roda to Afro-Brazilian experiences. When planning your stay, you can decide whether you would especially like to discover nature and community projects or focus on culture and regional history.

Lagoa da Paz and community projects

Lagoa da Paz is located in the Barra de Pojuca area. Ecological trails by the lagoon add to the area’s connection with nature; check the current conditions and access before visiting. The Lagoa da Paz region is also home to the Cozinha Integrativa project, created by Dona Leni. It includes integrative community therapy, laughter yoga, therapeutic dance and meditation. If you would like to take part in any of these activities, check in advance which options are currently available.

Casa da Farinha is also part of local community life: it is considered a traditional source of income for families in the community. Casa de Cultura Aurino Teixeira Pelé welcomes visitors with discussion sessions, local cuisine and Afro-Brazilian cultural experiences. Specific programme details may change; check what is currently available before planning a particular experience.

Samba de Roda and Afro-Brazilian culture

The Museu Afro-brasileiro Pai Procópio de Ogunjá (MAPPO) was founded, conceived, built and opened on 7 November 2020. Founded in 1995, the Samba de Roda group of the Companhia de Apoio Social e Cultural Espermacete consists of residents of Barra de Pojuca. The Companhia was founded in Barra de Pojuca and is considered a reference in Camaçari for Samba de Roda and ancestral cultural heritage. The tradition includes performances during the Terno de Reis celebrations, when the group makes its way through the city streets. As specific dates are not set, check the events calendar if you would like to experience one of these celebrations.

At the Centro Cultural Barra do Pojuca, 252 students of various age groups take part in activities such as capoeira, contemporary dance, children’s theatre, painting, guitar lessons and choir singing. The course programme may change. The range of arts shows how varied cultural life in Barra de Pojuca is, but does not imply a specific date to visit.
