Coruripe: Discover Culture and Landscapes
Accommodation in Coruripe
Coruripe offers something for different kinds of holiday: cultural venues in the town centre, insights into local traditions, and Praia do Pontal do Coruripe in the municipality. These experiences belong to different themes. When choosing your holiday rental, consider whether you would like to focus more on the town’s cultural activities or on beach pursuits.
Cultural Venues and Local History
The Memorial Coruripense brings together a building from the town’s history and its present-day cultural role. It was built in the third decade of the 20th century and initially served as a municipal slaughterhouse where various types of meat were sold. On 7 June 2006, it was transformed into the Memorial Coruripense to promote local culture and preserve memories. The change from its former purpose to a memorial gives the site a distinctive historical dimension. The Memorial Coruripense Maestro José Barbosa is also located in the town centre of Coruripe.
The Casa da Cultura Coruripense Dona Maria Alice Beltrão Siqueira is also located in the town centre. It offers arts education and hands-on artistic experiences through courses, workshops, events and performances for people of all ages. Those travelling with several generations will find a cultural venue whose offerings explicitly cater to different age groups. The Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Conceição is also in the town centre and is included as a sightseeing destination in a suggested itinerary for Coruripe.
For visitors with reduced mobility, the Biblioteca Pública Municipal Dr. Luiz Ramalho dos Reis is a specific place to visit: it is located on Rua Lindolfo Simões in the town centre. Wide corridors, ramps, adapted reading tables and accessible bathrooms make the facility comfortable to use. This information relates to the library and can help you consider it as a cultural and reading destination in its own right when planning your trip.
Traditions and Events
The VI Festival do Folclore de Coruripe brought together various local artistic and cultural expressions that form part of the municipality’s identity and collective memory. It took place at Praça Castro Azevedo. The festival included handicraft workshops with a certificate presentation and an exhibition of the items made. Performers included Grupo Zumbi de Capoeira, Grupo de Baianas Praieiras, Xaxado Asa Branca and Taieiras de Coruripe. The festival thus offers a concrete insight into the variety of expressions that came together at that edition.
Coruripe Arretado is already part of the municipality’s cultural calendar and grows with each edition. The Drilha Arretada was also announced for 2026 as an opening event, featuring a large Forró procession through the streets of Coruripe. The planned route ran from the Vassouras neighbourhood to Praça Castro Azevedo in the town centre. If you are interested in local traditions, these events offer different perspectives: the folk festival combined workshops, an exhibition and performances, while the announced Drilha centred on a procession through the town.
Landscapes and Beach in the Municipality
Mirante do Cruzeirinho has been described as a place to admire Coruripe’s landscape and sunset; its surroundings have been fully revitalised. Another tourist attraction is Mirante Francisco Valença de Siqueira Torres. It was inaugurated in Cruzeirinho, in the Alto do Cruzeiro neighbourhood. The two viewpoints offer opportunities to include landscape experiences in your plans without conflating them with the cultural activities in the town centre.
Praia do Pontal do Coruripe is also located in the municipality. A coral reef forms natural pools there; there are also small waterfalls and clear seawater. Swimming and water sports such as surfing, kayaking and sailing are possible. Alongside culture and local history, water activities are therefore another distinct option.
