Río Colorado combines its setting on the river of the same name with nature experiences, a layered local history and activities to suit different interests. Walks along the Bardas, nautical excursions and historic sites offer different ways to focus your trip. As you plan, you can decide whether you would rather spend time outdoors, explore the local culture or combine both.

Finding your way around the river and Ruta 22

The city lies on the river’s south bank, from which it takes its name, at kilometre 857 of National Route 22.

Walking, cycling and excursions

Nature activities include walks along the Bardas, which offer access to panoramic views. Cycling trips on rural roads appeal to travellers who prefer to explore the area on two wheels. These options offer different experiences and do not require you to follow a particular route or cover a set distance.

There are also activities on the water: the Balnearios of Río Colorado offer daytime and nighttime nautical excursions through local operators. The Río Colorado Aeroclub also offers scenic flights of around 25 to 45 minutes, with views of the Río Colorado. When planning your stay, you can therefore weigh up whether you would rather explore on foot, take an excursion on the water or see the river from the air.

Golf enthusiasts will find a nine-hole course at the Río Colorado Golf Club, at kilometre 860 of Ruta 22. The club promotes the opportunity to play golf all year round. This adds another activity to the nature and water-based options. Families can choose activities based on what they are curious about together, rather than trying to fit every experience into a fixed schedule.

Local history between the railway, bridge and chapel

The Estación del Ferrocarril opened to public transport in September 1897. It served as a centre for transporting goods and passengers, particularly to the markets of Bahía Blanca and Buenos Aires. This history reflects the railway’s former importance for transporting goods and travellers. It offers a different way to explore Río Colorado from its present-day nature and leisure activities.

The community’s historical heritage also includes the Antiguo Puente Carretero, inaugurated on 25 May 1909. The Capilla del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús was the town’s first chapel: originally built in 1908, it did not survive the 1915 flood and was rebuilt in 1936. The dates tell of different periods in the town’s history and should each remain associated with the corresponding building.

Festival and regional cuisine

The Fiesta del Colorado 2026 took place on Friday the 27th, Saturday the 28th and Sunday the 29th of March at Río Colorado’s municipal athletics grounds. Admission was free for the entire community. This edition has already passed, so it offers a glimpse of the events calendar in 2026 rather than indicating a future date.

The IV Fiesta del Colorado was held as a cultural, artistic and gastronomic event, attracting residents, visitors and tourists. It featured food trucks and stalls run by local social, cultural, sporting and religious institutions, as well as neighbourhood associations. Trina Bodega & Viñedos offers another taste of the local cuisine: regional food is served at its Mangia Orecchio restaurant.

You can choose your destination based on what you would like to discover during your stay.
