Guaymallén combines historic sites and cultural offerings with cycling experiences and a strong food and wine culture. The department can therefore be explored from different perspectives: with guided walks, a look at art and literature, or through tastings and insights into local production. When choosing your vacation rental, consider which of these interests are especially important for your trip.

Experience history and culture

The municipal program “Recorridos con historia” offers guided walks to historic sites and places of heritage significance in Guaymallén. For travelers interested in history and the preservation of buildings, this guided format is one way to get to know these places on a walk. The founding area is home to both the Monumento al Cancionero Cuyano by artist Elio Ortiz and the Casa Museo Molina.

The cultural centers also offer different ways to connect with your trip. Espacio Cultural Julio Le Parc offers a literary program for a broad audience. A Bicitour departing from Guaymallén started there, next to the old train station. Salas de Arte Libertad is located at Libertad 466 in Villa Nueva and is open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Centro Cultural Pascual Lauriente is located at Bandera de Los Andes 8956 in Rodeo de la Cruz; its opening hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

By bicycle and through different districts

The Bicitour program showcases the department’s tourist and cultural attractions by bicycle. On one described tour, the route passed through different districts and ended at a winery with a wine tasting. This experience brings cycling and local wine culture together, though it does not establish a fixed route for every visit.

Another event, “Patios de Guaymallén,” is a free outdoor music and dance program that visits different places in the department. If you would like to include music and dance in your trip, this offers a different way to explore the area than a museum or walking tour. When choosing accommodation, you can weigh whether cultural offerings, cycling experiences, or food and wine should be the focus of your trip.

Wine, agriculture, and regional products

Several wineries in Guaymallén are open to visitors. There, visitors can learn about the winemaking process and take part in tastings. The department is also home to more than 15 sparkling wine producers, with an annual production of 10 million bottles. Wine is therefore not just a theme at individual tastings, but also part of the local production described here.

The “De la Bodega a tu Resto” series combines tastings at different restaurants in the department with the aim of promoting Guaymallén’s food scene and wineries. Ten editions took place in 2024. The municipal program “El camino de las burbujas” featured weekly tastings with changing themes in various squares and green spaces.

Olives and vegetables are also part of the area’s agricultural character. Guaymallén has around 800 hectares of olive groves and produces 3,240,000 kilograms of olives and 450,000 kilograms of olive oil each year. At the same time, the department is an important vegetable-growing area, leads the Cuyo region in vegetable and horticultural production, and is part of Argentina’s second-largest green belt. Sweet potato is considered an iconic product of Guaymallén. It has been certified as one of the highest-quality products in Argentina and the world, and is distinguished by its firmness, flavor, and creaminess.

A visit as part of the “Burbujas y Sabores” tours took participants to Finca El Sauce in the Guaymallén district of the same name. The farm produces gourmet vegetables using hydroponics. This insight complements the topics of wine and olives with a specific form of vegetable cultivation. If you would like to focus your trip primarily on local products and wineries, these interests can shape your choice of vacation rental just as much as a desire for cultural or cycling experiences.
