León offers several different reasons to visit: from the lookout, you can gaze out over the Río Grande and the surrounding towns, while the “27 de Abril-Combate de León” Museum displays military objects. The history of the Batalla de León and the routes of the León edition of the Trail Día Grande de Jujuy also give the town a distinctive character. What interests you most—views, cultural history or outdoor activity—can therefore shape your choice of León as a destination.

A Museum and the History of the Batalla de León

The “27 de Abril-Combate de León” Museum is located in the Sala histórica de León on Route 9 at kilometre 22.3. It displays around 600 military objects, including clothing, maps, radio equipment, weapons and artillery. The museum has been declared a site of cultural interest. Its name refers to the Batalla de León, fought on 27 April 1821: 600 patriots from Jujuy fought under the command of Colonel José Ignacio Gorriti. Anyone interested in the town’s history will find a tangible way into it here through the collection and the historical events mentioned.

Views from the Mirador de León

The Mirador de León is on RN 9, by the bridge leading to Tiraxi. From there, you can see the Río Grande, RP 29, the towns of Lozano and León, and the area around Volcán. If you are visiting León for its scenery and the chance to get your bearings in the surrounding area, the lookout is a distinct point of interest to include in your travel plans.

Trail Routes with Different Distances

The León edition of the Trail Día Grande de Jujuy featured four marked routes: 5, 10, 21 and 35 kilometres. The stated elevation gains for these routes were 200, 480, 1,000 and 1,300 metres, respectively. This lets you compare the distance and elevation gain for each of the four options. The figures clearly distinguish the routes by distance and elevation profile, but in themselves they say nothing about walking time or individual requirements. The Polideportivo de León served as the meeting and starting point for this trail event.

When deciding where to travel, what matters most is the kind of stay you are looking for: the marked trail routes offer different distances and elevation gains, while the museum and lookout offer other points of interest. When looking for a holiday apartment in León, you can also consider which experiences you would like to focus on.

More Experiences

At Desafío Kids in León, children accompanying participants had a course with games, coordination exercises and physical activities. This is a specific example of an additional offering as part of this event; it should not be taken to mean that the activity is available on an ongoing basis.

The Batalla de León was also commemorated in 2026: the celebration of its 205th anniversary included a traditional civil-military and gaucho-style parade in León. The museum, lookout, trail event and this commemorative celebration show different sides of the town—from historical remembrance to active and community experiences.

If you would like to extend your travel plans beyond León, explore Termas De Reyes too.
