Federación on Lake Salto Grande
Accommodation in Federación
On the shores of Lake Salto Grande, Federación combines waterside experiences with museums, crafts, and regional cuisine. The city also has beaches and bathing areas along the Uruguay River and Lake Salto Grande. Here, you can combine days by the shore with water activities and cultural discoveries.
Shoreline and Water Activities
If you enjoy spending time by the water, Federación has beaches and bathing areas on both of the aforementioned shores. On the water, you can go kayaking, windsurfing, and jet skiing. These are different ways to make your stay active; which ones interest you may shape your decision to choose Federación as a destination. The Costanera offers another perspective on the town: it invites you to take a walk. This means water activities and a stroll along the Costanera are different ways to experience the city.
Museums and History
The Museo de los Asentamientos offers insight into Federación’s past. The building itself also tells a story: it was moved piece by piece from Federación’s former location, where it was the first church in the town at the time. Federación’s museums also include the Museo de la Imagen and the Museo de Termas. Together, the three museums offer different cultural points of interest, so you don’t have to limit your visit to a single subject.
The Museo Acuario Federación features a small aquarium with various fish from the reservoir. It adds a close-up look at fish from these waters to the museum offerings. If you’d like to include cultural attractions in your trip alongside the shore and water activities, you can see Federación as more than just a place to spend time by the water.
Crafts and Alfajores
At the Paseo de los Artesanos “El Algarrobo,” artisans from Federación exhibit works made from wood, capybara leather, semiprecious stones, and other regional materials throughout the year. The range of materials gives an impression of the variety of works on display. For travelers who enjoy discovering local crafts, this paseo offers a cultural attraction of its own.
The Mis Pichones artisanal alfajor factory offers a different kind of regional discovery: visitors can learn about and sample the production process, along with different varieties and flavors. Crafts and alfajores appeal to different interests—one focuses on materials and the finished works, the other on production and taste.
Nature in the Surrounding Area
Near Federación, the Reserva Natural Chaviyú lies on Lake Salto Grande. From there, you can enjoy panoramic views of the natural surroundings, home to various native animal species, as well as views of the small islands formed by the construction of the hydroelectric dam. The reserve complements the city’s museums and shoreline experiences with a focus on nature and landscape close to the destination.
The Fiesta Nacional del Lago is also part of Federación’s event history: its 42nd edition took place in the city from January 8 to 11, 2026. Its cultural and sports program included all of the city’s beaches. If you’d like to extend your travel plans to another destination, you can also find Paraná here.
