Trevelín is the gateway to Los Alerces National Park, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are also plenty of reasons to be curious in the town and its surrounding area: guided tours of an ecological lavender farm, an extraordinary tulip bloom in October, waterfalls, and insights into the history of present-day Trevelín.

Nature experiences and spectacular blooms

Tierra de Brotes is a new ecological lavender farm set in Patagonia’s natural surroundings. Guided tours of the fields are offered there. If you are interested in lavender and its cultivation, you can plan this visit as a guided experience. Lunch and picadas are also available outdoors on the same grounds. Groups must reserve these in advance.

Another seasonal highlight lies near Trevelín: the Campo de Tulipanes on National Route 259 is 13 kilometers from the town center. Developed and maintained by the Ledesma family, the site produces more than a million tulips in bloom at the same time every October. The month and the impressive number of flowers make the bloom a distinct event to consider when planning your trip. This experience is quite different from a walk through the lavender fields: here, the October tulip bloom shapes the visit.

Waterfalls are also among the nature experiences in the area. Arroyo Nant y Fall forms seven waterfalls; Cascadas Larga, Mellizas, and La Petiza can be visited within the protected area. A walk to the Cascadas Nant y Fall takes about 45 minutes.

In the Comunidad Ancestral Sierra Colorada, 17 kilometers from Trevelín, you can combine outdoor activities with Mapuche culture. The Sendero de Micoturismo also runs through the area: the trail is 1.7 kilometers long, has an elevation gain of 29 meters, and is rated easy to moderate. It is suitable for all age groups, and the route is estimated to take about two hours. Its length and duration make this experience easy to distinguish from the roughly 45-minute walk to the Cascadas Nant y Fall.

Discover Trevelín’s history

In town, the more than century-old building of Molino Harinero Andes houses the Museo Histórico Regional. The museum’s location in a historic building is part of the experience. The first exhibition room is devoted to the encounter between Indigenous peoples and Welsh immigrants, as well as to the prominent figures who shaped the emergence of present-day Trevelín. If you are interested in the town’s history, this is a concrete way to explore these themes.

The different options can help you tailor your stay to your interests: the Regional Museum focuses on Trevelín’s history, while nature experiences in town and the surrounding area offer other discoveries. When choosing a vacation rental in Trevelín, you can consider which of these experiences matter most to your trip and whether you would also like to plan around the seasonal tulip bloom in October.
