Discover Sarmiento
Accommodation in Sarmiento
Sarmiento offers a range of reasons to take excursions: south of town lies the Bosque Petrificado Sarmiento nature reserve, while in town you can see life-size dinosaur replicas and visit an educational park. There is also a visitor attraction at Lago Musters, as well as cycling and mountain biking. You can therefore make nature, learning and outdoor activity different focuses of your trip.
Nature reserve south of Sarmiento
The Bosque Petrificado Sarmiento is located 30 km south of Sarmiento. It covers 1,832 hectares and was established as a nature reserve in 1970. Its location makes this excursion different from the experiences mentioned in Sarmiento itself: the reserve offers a distinct nature-focused outing outside town. If you want to organize your days around different destinations, you can plan this visit separately.
The reserve has a visitor center and a 2.4 km circular trail with several viewpoints. The circular route and its stated length make it a practical element of your day’s planning; along the way, you’ll find several viewpoints. The visitor center is another part of what the reserve offers. So your visit includes not only a trail but also a place to stop within the reserve.
Dinosaurs and educational park
The Parque Temático de Dinosaurios de Sarmiento features eleven life-size replicas of the region’s most important dinosaurs. Their size makes the visit a vivid way to engage with the subject of dinosaurs. If you’re traveling with children and are interested in prehistoric times and regional dinosaurs, the park offers a clear point of interest.
Another focus is Parque Dr. Rubén Martínez, which was created for educational purposes. It complements the dinosaur theme with a visit specifically focused on education. Guided tours of the park are organized through the municipal tourism office.
Water and outdoor activity
Sarmiento’s visitor attractions include the balneario at Lago Musters, named “Playa Otron.” The lake offers another focus alongside the nature reserve, dinosaur displays and educational park. If you’d like to include water in your travel interests, you can consider this attraction when choosing your excursions. “Playa Otron” is the name of the balneario at Lago Musters.
Cycling and mountain biking are also offered as activities for visitors to Sarmiento. These two forms of cycling appeal to different interests: you can focus your trip on cycling or specifically on mountain biking. Along with the trail in the reserve, they add outdoor activity to the range of options, without implying any particular route or connection between the activities.
Market and handicrafts
Sarmiento has a center for market vendors and artisans. This adds a local connection to markets and crafts alongside the nature and activity offerings. If you’re interested in these topics as well as excursions, the center offers another way to explore the town.
