Loma Verde combines a distinctive railway history with cultural, sporting and community leisure activities. The former station tells the story of the town’s past role in regional transport; today, the building is used as a community space. There are also sports facilities, a large natural green space and cultural workshops. If you’re looking for a holiday rental in Loma Verde, these varied interests may help you decide whether the town suits your travel plans.

Railway and Local History

On September 18, 1911, the former railway station was named after the railway company “Loma Verde.” It was an intermediate station on the Buenos Aires provincial railway, serving regional passenger and freight traffic to and from La Plata, Mira Pampa, Loma Negra and Azul. These connections are part of the town’s historical identity: the station was part of a transport network linking Loma Verde with several of the places named above.

The former station on Intendente Chiramberro Street was repurposed as a community space that houses several local organizations. The former station’s shed has also retained its original façade. Those interested in local history will find two distinct aspects of the same railway heritage here: the station’s former function and the preserved façade of the shed. The Capilla Sagrado Corazón de Jesús adds another perspective on Loma Verde’s history. It was inaugurated on February 10, 1985, and was the town’s first chapel.

Sports, Green Space and Culture

The “Atleta Lis Scaroni” sports complex has courts and pitches for tennis, football, padel, volleyball, hockey, basketball and handball. The wide selection ranges from racket and ball sports to team sports. If you want to make sporting activities a focus of your trip, you can take this variety into account when choosing where to stay, without having to commit to a single sport.

The sports complex also includes a large natural green space with barbecue grills, tables and toilets. The sports facilities and green space offer different ways to spend your leisure time: getting active on the courts and pitches, or spending time outdoors with the amenities listed. Which of these matters to you will depend on how you want to spend your days in Loma Verde.

The recently opened SUM de la Comunidad on Rivadavia Street offers cultural workshops for all ages and serves as a place for learning, recreation and leisure. This also makes the town appealing to travellers who want to consider cultural activities alongside sports. At Club Los Merinos, a leather-goods-making workshop is also listed, taught by Miguel Silvestri and held on Thursdays from 2 to 5 p.m.

Planning Leisure Activities and Your Stay

The municipal swimming pool opens to the local community during the summer season. So if you’re planning to swim in Loma Verde, the time of year is an important consideration. Another arrival aid is planned: signs showing the entrances to Loma Verde, with the town’s name and distance, are to be installed in both directions on Provincial Route 29.
