Remedios de Escalada
Accommodation in Remedios de Escalada
Remedios de Escalada piques interest with its many different facets: at the historic workshops of the Ferroclub Argentino, railways take centre stage, while the Centro Interactivo de Ciencia y Tecnología Abremate invites visitors to explore through hands-on activities. Places of remembrance and culture round out these themes. If you are planning a trip with several interests, you can choose what to focus on based on what makes you especially curious.
Railway history at the Ferroclub Argentino
At the historic workshops in Remedios de Escalada, the Ferroclub Argentino preserves the large main hall, along with several locomotives and railway carriages on display. One special vehicle is the Coche Dinamométrico 0–153: it is unique in Argentina and one of only two surviving examples worldwide.
The Ferroclub’s self-guided family outing includes a ride on the Ferrocarril Económico Sud railway. The track is 300 metres long, the gauge is 26 centimetres, and the railway stops at two stations. These precise details help you understand the nature of the outing: the focus is a short train ride on an exceptionally narrow track, not a long journey. For families interested in railways, this is a standalone activity within the Ferroclub visit.
Hands-on science
The Centro Interactivo de Ciencia y Tecnología Abremate is aimed at students, teachers and the general public. Its exhibition space has 63 playful interactive modules covering physics, chemistry and biology. Visitors can experiment and play with them. So rather than simply viewing an exhibition, visitors get to try out scientific topics for themselves. This makes Abremate a different kind of discovery from the railway exhibits at the Ferroclub: one focuses on historic vehicles, the other on actively engaging with science.
Remembrance at Parque Municipal Eva Perón
The Paseo de la Memoria is located in Parque Municipal Eva Perón in Remedios de Escalada. It was inaugurated on 28 March 2012 to remember and honour the people who were detained and disappeared in Lanús during state terrorism. The memorial site explicitly connects its remembrance to those affected in Lanús. The park also has a special designation: in Lanús, it is described as the district’s most important green lung. Those wishing to engage with memorial culture will find a specific historical connection here, as well as a dedicated place for remembrance in the park.
Cultural landmarks in the town
The Biblioteca Popular Alberdi is considered a cultural landmark of Remedios de Escalada. Its founding on 14 October 1918 gives the place a clearly dated history. Another institution with cultural and academic connections is the Museo Universitario de Diseño (MUD). It was conceived as a space for exhibitions, teaching, research and training. When it opened, it was open to both the academic community and the general public. This historical detail describes its focus at the time of opening and adds design and education to the town’s cultural offerings.
Leisure and dining as a programme idea
The “Finde en el Parque Municipal Eva Perón” programme aimed to offer district residents a range of leisure activities and cultural events. Plans included a traditional shopping promenade and open-air food stalls. The combination of leisure, culture and food illustrates another way of using the park as a setting for activities in the district. The programme thus adds a community-oriented leisure and dining element to the excursions and cultural themes described above.
