The Museo Municipal Miguel Hidalgo focuses on the life of its namesake and pre-Hispanic cultures, while the historic center offers further landmarks in the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Luz and Plaza Constitución. The Museo Miguel Hidalgo: History in Two Permanent Exhibitions

The Museo Municipal Miguel Hidalgo preserves and presents Abasolo’s historical, cultural and archaeological heritage. Its two permanent exhibitions have different focuses: one displays documents about the life and work of Miguel Hidalgo; the other is dedicated to the pre-Hispanic cultures of La Mina and Peralta in Guanajuato. The exhibits thus span the history of a historical figure and the region’s older cultural history.

The Museo Miguel Hidalgo has four rooms for temporary exhibitions. Topics covered there include the Mexican Revolution and Mexican traditions, as well as works by local and regional visual artists. Historic Center and Plaza Life

The Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Luz is a historic monument in the center of Abasolo. The kiosk on Plaza Constitución is one of the sights in the historic center; families still gather there from time to time to relax. The historic walking tour held in June 2025 connected the town center with the Museo Miguel Hidalgo to promote the municipality’s tourist and cultural sites.

May Festivals and Cultural Events

Abasolo’s Semana Cultural takes place every year from May 8 to 16. The 50th edition took place in 2026, bringing together artistic performances, music and recognition of talent from the community. This edition included performances by Ballet Folklórico Ecos del Bajío and Mariachi Juvenil Bajío. The traditional Fiestas de Mayo also include the Fiesta de la Virgen de la Luz, celebrations marking Miguel Hidalgo’s birth and baptism, the Expo Feria, and the crowning of the queen and princesses. Past exhibitions also offer insight into local cultural themes. In March 2024, “Manos Creativas” presented works in magic embroidery, ribbon embroidery, weaving, fabric painting, nail art and papier-mâché. Also in 2024, a gallery in the center of Jardín Hidalgo displayed six photographs explaining the origins of local festivals.

Peralta in the Wider Abasolo Destination

The Zona Arqueológica Peralta is located east of the municipality of Abasolo within the wider Abasolo destination. The archaeological zone comprises 20 buildings, stretching from the summit of the hill of the same name to lower-lying areas near the river. Its architecture includes six of the eight different forms of hill and sunken-courtyard architecture. An asphalt road leads east from Abasolo; the zone is 13 kilometers away via the rancherías of San Isidro, La Peña and Rancho Seco. Road conditions may change, so check the route before setting out.
