In Armstrong, agricultural traditions, local culture and a range of recreational activities come together. The annual Armstrong IPE & Stampede, exhibitions, theatre and the seasonal Farmers’ Market each offer something different. Tradition and History

Rooted in agriculture, community and the spirit of friendly competition, the Armstrong IPE & Stampede has become an annual tradition. Held at the Armstrong Fairgrounds, the five-day event brings together livestock shows, agricultural displays, rodeo evenings, live entertainment, rides, vendor booths, food and dancing. The program also includes family-friendly experiences. Individual events may vary from one edition to the next.

In the historic downtown, the Armstrong Spallumcheen Museum features replicas of a railway station, a classroom, a general store and a blacksmith’s workshop. The different spaces showcase various aspects of everyday life, from teaching and shopping to blacksmithing and the railway station. Visitors interested in the town’s history will find several specific topics under one roof.

Armstrong’s unofficial Heritage Resource Inventory includes information on more than 70 properties built before 1930 that have heritage value. Together with the historic scenes in the museum, this information offers further insight into the town’s built heritage.

Recreation in the Park and Arena

Armstrong-Spallumcheen Memorial Park combines opportunities for activity and relaxation. The grounds include a playground, spray park, skate park, picnic areas, flower beds and a cenotaph. The park also has a public outdoor swimming pool and a heated wading pool. Visitors can choose from play and skate facilities, places to swim and quieter areas of the park.

Hassen Memorial Arena hosts lacrosse, roller skating, indoor fairs and community events. In winter, public skating and organized ice hockey are also available. If you’re planning a trip for the winter program, check the current public skating schedule in advance.

Art, Market and Theatre

The Armstrong Spallumcheen Art Gallery has two exhibition spaces. Monthly art exhibitions featuring solo and group shows are planned for the 2026 season; exhibition plans may change. This seasonal program offers a different cultural focus from the theatre’s recurring year-round work.

The local amateur theatre group Asparagus Theatre stages several productions for the public each year. The specific program may vary from year to year. At the Armstrong Fairgrounds, the local Farmers’ Market offers seasonal fruit and vegetables, crafts, homemade baked goods and live entertainment. Its seasonal nature makes it a distinct reason to visit, while the arena has a different range of activities, particularly in winter.
