Les Breuleux is a municipality in the Franches-Montagnes District of the canton of Jura in Switzerland. The village lies at an altitude of 1,038 metres above sea level, approximately 5 km south of Saignelégier, on a south-facing slope on the high plateau of the Franches-Montagnes in the Jura.

Landscape

The municipality covers a section of the gently rolling high plateau of the Jura plateau. It includes marshy depressions, mostly without surface drainage, and limestone hilltops. The central part consists of a depression between two Jura mountain ranges, with extensive pastures outside the village. Large spruce trees, standing singly or in groups, divide these pastures.

To the south lies the Pâturage Communal forest area. In the far south, the municipality extends to the northern slope of the Montagne du Droit Jura range, reaching an altitude of 1,113 metres above sea level. To the west, Les Breuleux extends to the Point de Vue elevation; at 1,185 metres above sea level, this is the highest point in the municipality.

The Petit Crêt hill is located nearby. The Cras au Sauvage hill is situated in the vicinity of Les Breuleux. In the wider regional surroundings are the Le Gros Crêt summit and Mont Terri mountain.

History

The historical site of La Tène and the historical site of Lützel (Abbey: Lützel, Switzerland) are located in the wider regional surroundings of Les Breuleux.
