Holiday apartment in Växjö: Lakes, trails and culture

Lakes, protected landscapes, long trails and distinctive cultural attractions give Växjö its diverse character. The municipality of Växjö has 250 lakes and 29 nature reserves. Lakes and protected landscapes are thus complemented by historical and cultural destinations.

Nature

The Helgö nature reserve covers 372 hectares, of which 182 hectares are land. In Kronoberg nature reserve, old, largely untouched woodland, pastures and a historic burial ground form part of the landscape. Hissö nature reserve is characterised by beech woodland, large old pine trees and a diverse birdlife. There are several walking trails, designated barbecue areas and a dog beach.

Bokhultet also combines different natural landscapes: The nature reserve offers many trails through beech woodland, along lakes and across open pastures. Almost 200 bird species have been observed in the same area. Åsnen National Park is also one of the nature experiences associated with Växjö.

Trails and cycling

Växjö runt is a well-signposted hiking and cycling trail more than 40 kilometres long that connects six lakes and eight nature reserves. Along the route, there are rest areas with bathing jetties, viewpoints, barbecue areas, shelters and other facilities. This means that the route is not limited to a single mode of transport, but instead connects different sections of landscape with places to stop along the way.

The Sigfridsleden is approximately 88 kilometres long and has a marked 14-kilometre connection via the narrow-gauge railway to Evedal and Växjö Cathedral. The trail can also be used by mountain bike, provided that cyclists show consideration for hikers and nature. For bicycles, Växjö's central bicycle parking facility has space for 62 bicycles, a charging station for electric bicycles and lockers for storing helmets and rainwear.

Culture

Växjö Cathedral was built in the early Middle Ages. It has accessible toilets and lifts, as well as a hearing loop. The Växjö Art Site art trail runs around Växjö's central lakes, adding an artistic accent to the cityscape.

Teleborg Castle was completed in 1900 and features neo-Gothic architecture. The distinctive interior furnishings and the castle park have been preserved following careful renovation and restoration. The Swedish Glass Museum in Växjö offers a different cultural focus, bringing together glass, glass art, history and culture.

The Småland Museum presents the cultural history of Kronoberg through permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as lectures, events and guided tours. The House of Emigrants has exhibitions, archives, a library and research on emigration to North America. In addition, the InfoPoints in Växjö provide brochures, information and tips about attractions and activities in and around Växjö.
