In Skruv, glassmaking traditions, water and outdoor activities come together. Skrufs Glasbruk was founded in 1897 and is still in operation today; the village also has a swimming lake and running, cycling and hiking trails. When choosing a holiday rental, you can start by asking what kind of holiday days you have in mind: culture, time by the water or active hours outdoors. If your fellow travelers have different interests, these themes offer different starting points for planning together, without any one activity having to define your stay.

Glass history in Skruv

Construction work on Skrufs Glasbruk intensified in 1896, and the works were due to be completed the following spring. The glassworks was founded in 1897 and is still in operation today. It is owned and run by the Elm family from Skruv. If you plan to visit, check the current opening hours in advance.

Skrufs Glass Museum is located in a former grinding mill building opposite the glassworks. A local heritage association runs the museum; on display are glass items made throughout the history of the works. The museum’s glassmaking exhibits are complemented by another option: the section of the Utvandrarleden through Skruv allows visitors to tour a glassworks and watch glassblowing during opening hours. Check the opening hours in advance if you plan to visit.

Swimming lake, swimming and fishing

Skruv’s bathing area is beside a swimming lake next to the sports field. It has a bathing jetty, changing rooms and toilets. Skruvs Vildmarkscamping also has drinking water and swimming facilities. These water-based activities offer a distinct focus alongside the village’s cultural attractions and trails.

Fishing is another option to consider: Skruvs Fiskeklubb manages the fishing for game fish in Laxsjön in Skruv. Rules and permits may change, so check the current requirements before fishing.

Trails for different activities

For outdoor exercise, you can compare two routes with different purposes: Skruvs elljusspår is a 2.5-kilometre illuminated running track; Kristinaleden is a 3-kilometre cycling and hiking trail. Kristinaleden is therefore half a kilometre longer, but the activities also differ: one is for running, the other for cycling and hiking.

Karl-Oskarleden starts at the local campsite and is marked with yellow signs. Skruv also has a new walking and cycling path. If you want to spend your holiday days actively, you can choose between an illuminated running track, a cycling and hiking trail, and other paths in the village, while keeping in mind that they offer different experiences.

Practical information and local life

Matöppet Skruv is a grocery store where you can stock up on provisions. This is useful information if you are planning a holiday in a rental and want to arrange your own shopping.

Regular services are held at Skruvs Chapel. If you plan to attend a service, check the current schedule, as times may change.
