Tenhult: Lake, Hiking Trails and Farm History
Accommodation in Tenhult
Tenhult offers a variety of ways to spend your holiday: follow the Tenhultsleden through the village, visit Lake Tenhultasjön for swimming and recreational fishing, or explore the area’s farm history. On the forest sections of the Tenhultsleden, gravel roads, paths, wooden boardwalks and steps on the hills alternate; within the village, the trail runs on asphalt. This variety helps you plan your days: you can alternate between a walk, time by the water and a historical focus, rather than centring your stay on just one theme.
Landscape and water at Lake Tenhultasjön
Uvaberget rises to about 260 metres above sea level; its cliff face above Lake Tenhultasjön is around 45 metres high. These figures describe both the mountain’s elevation and the striking drop down to the lake. Lake Tenhultasjön and its surroundings have significant natural value, and the lake is highly valued for local recreation. At Lake Tenhultasjön, nature goes hand in hand with opportunities to spend active time by the water.
Tenhultsbadet is an outdoor bathing area on Lake Tenhultasjön, just south of the village of Tenhult. Recreational fishing is also possible at the lake, which is managed by the Tenhultasjöns fiskevårdsområdesförening. Before fishing, check with the association for the latest regulations. If you are planning a day by the water, you can choose between swimming and fishing as different activities—the lake is not limited to just one.
Hiking, running and mountain biking
The Tenhultsleden features a variety of surfaces and trail elements: asphalt within the village, as well as gravel roads, paths, wooden boardwalks and steps on the hills in the forest sections. You can start the hike at any point along the trail. In Ingaryd, the hiking trail consists of two loop routes that start at the farm’s car park. Signs with QR codes link to a digital map featuring stories about Ingaryd farm and nature. When planning, you can therefore take both exercise and an insight into local history into account as separate interests.
For cycling, the Högalund area has a mountain bike trail about ten kilometres long, with varying levels of difficulty. It is suitable for both experienced and inexperienced riders. Near the Högalund club house, there is also a 2.5-kilometre floodlit running trail, as well as fitness trails of five and ten kilometres. The different distances offer practical options for a range of sporting goals. As trail conditions and maintenance may change, check before planning your route.
Discover farms and history
The old Ingaryd farm lies northwest of Tenhult and dates back to the 1570s. The farm served as a post station, inn and courthouse. These former functions give the site a history that extends beyond its agricultural origins. The hiking trail’s loop routes start at the farm’s car park; QR code signs add stories about Ingaryd and the nature reserve to your walk.
Another place to explore local history is the Rogberga heritage farm on the northwestern edge of Tenhult, by the old Rv 31. Logen was the first building erected on the site. Ingaryd and Rogberga offer different historical perspectives: Ingaryd focuses on the farm’s long history and former functions, while Rogberga features a single early building on the heritage farm grounds.
Getting there and choosing suitable accommodation
Tenhult has bus and train connections to Jönköping. Check the relevant timetables when planning your trip. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Tenhult, your preferred activities can help you narrow down the best location: the Tenhultsleden runs through the village, Tenhultsbadet is just south of it, and Ingaryd lies to the northwest. These locations offer different points of reference for your search, without requiring you to commit to a single programme for your entire stay. Consider whether you mainly want to hike, spend time by the water or explore the area’s farm history, then see which accommodation location suits your plans. This makes choosing a holiday apartment part of planning your trip, rather than simply a matter of finding an available date.
