Archaeological traces of the past, Lake Barnarpasjön and farm-based offerings showcase different sides of Odensjö. The Barnarp 328 burial ground, a medieval charcoal-burning pit and a three-kilometre trail each offer a distinct focus. The farm shop at Odensjö Östergård sells KRAV-certified beef; coffee, cake and light lunches are also available. Cultural history, outdoor activities and regional food offer different themes to consider when planning your holiday.

Archaeological traces and village history

The Barnarp 328 burial ground lies directly north of the old village site of Odensjö and contains at least 60 graves dating from the Roman Iron Age. The medieval charcoal-burning pit A1230 is located near Odensjö Västergård and was used between 1040 and 1170 AD. The two archaeological sites have clearly different associations: the burial ground points to burials, while the pit points to charcoal production.

Odensjö is first mentioned in written sources in 1394. According to the land register for the Tveta judicial district, the historic village comprised seven farms in 1542. The Odensjö gård estate was established around 1680. Another change concerned the compact village settlement north of Lake Barnarpasjön: it was permanently dissolved during the land consolidation of Odensjö in 1824. Archaeological traces, written records, the history of the farms and changes to the settlement thus sit side by side.

Out and about by Lake Barnarpasjön

Lake Barnarpasjön has been heavily eutrophic for a long time, and ecological conditions may change. A 3 km hiking trail runs around the lake and into the pastures of Odensjö gård. If you plan to walk the route, check on site whether the pastures are accessible. The stated distance gives you a specific point of reference for planning, but does not indicate how long the walk will take.

Farm shop and local offerings

Odensjö Östergård combines its farm shop with coffee and cake, as well as light lunches, served in the farm shop and on the outdoor terrace. KRAV-certified beef is sold in the farm shop. If you have specific dishes or products in mind, check what is available on the day of your visit, as service arrangements may change.

Plan a stay that suits you

When looking for a holiday apartment in Odensjö, you can start by considering which focus best suits your holiday: the different periods represented in the village’s history, a trail with a clearly stated distance, or the farm shop’s offerings. You can weigh up these themes according to your interests without having to combine them into a fixed itinerary. If outdoor activities are important to you, take access through the pastures into account; if you plan to have a meal there, factor the farm shop’s current offerings into your plans.
