Holiday apartment in Kungsbacka: Fjord, nature and culture

The Kungsbackafjorden Nature Reserve is home to around fifty islands and skerries. Over the years, more than 240 bird species have been observed there. The area offers swimming and fishing; the islands can be reached by boat. This brings the coastal landscape, wildlife watching and water together, while keeping the individual facets of the fjord distinct.

Nature and coast

Nearby Fjärås Bräcka is a glacial moraine that rises 60 metres above the Halland coastal plain. The nearby Naturum Fjärås Bräcka offers exhibitions, activities and a café. Also nearby is Näsbokrok Nature Reserve, with a 1.4-kilometre circular trail and several rest areas.

Särö Västerskog has two marked circular trails, 1.4 kilometres and 3 kilometres long respectively. Swimming is possible there from a sandy beach, from the cliffs and between the boulders. Rare sand lizards, smooth snakes and pearl-bordered fritillaries live in this area. Birds and flowers can be observed at Vallda Sandö, which also offers swimming. Vallda Sandö has gently sloping sandy beaches and rocks suitable for swimming. Many paths and trails invite visitors to go for walks, but there are no marked hiking trails.

Culture and history

Nearby Tjolöholms slott is located on a peninsula in Kungsbackafjord and is a cultural and historical setting unique in Sweden. At nearby Tjolöholm, seven kilometres of carefully paved paths pass old oaks, coastal meadows, viewpoints, rocky beaches and deciduous forests. From Kungsbacka, nearby Tjolöholms slott can be reached by bus 732 towards Frillesås, followed by a walk of approximately 3.5 kilometres from the Torpa Smedja bus stop.

The area around the present-day church of Tölö contains archaeological remains of a stave church from the 11th century. In the early 11th century, the area developed into an important economic and politico-religious centre. The nearby Li burial ground by Fjärås Bräcka is the largest Iron Age burial ground in Halland. It comprises more than a hundred standing stones and around forty other remains.

Kungsbacka city centre has historic wooden houses and small cobblestone streets. Kunsthallen Kungsbacka presents exhibitions by international, national and local artists, with a focus on contemporary art; admission to all exhibitions is free. A self-guided tour of public art takes visitors past sculptures and artworks in the city centre. At Hunehals Borg, a self-guided cultural trail with information boards leads through the former castle grounds. Hunehals Borg was a medieval castle located outside Kungsbacka in the 12th and 13th centuries.

Trails and activities

Nearby Äskhult has four historic trails with colour-coded main routes and stations at sites of historical or biological value. The Hallandsleden Kusten passes through Kungsbacka in four stages through forests, urban areas, countryside and coastal areas. The Kattegattleden begins at Kungsbacka torg and runs along Kungsbackafjord towards Onsalahalvön.

Kungsbacka Teater is only a few minutes’ walk from Kungsbacka Resecentrum; a bus also stops at the Teatergatan bus stop. Kungsbacka Klättercenter offers bouldering, courses and bookable group activities. Forsgårdens Golfklubb has an open 27-hole parkland course with a seaside character.
