Holiday apartment in Halland: Discover the coast, forests and trails

Halland offers a varied landscape between the coast and the inland. Halland’s coastal plain has long sandy beaches with dunes, extending as far north as the northern parts of Halmstad Municipality. Further north, the coast becomes more varied, with coastal meadows, cliffs, skerries and bays. Halland’s eastern forest region includes naturally occurring coniferous and mixed forests as well as open bog areas with a pronounced wilderness character.

Landscape

Åkulla bokskogar comprises around ten similar nature reserves within one contiguous area of Varberg Municipality. The area includes 20 lakes, which together account for around one-fifth of its total area. Haverdal Nature Reserve features a coastal dune landscape where visitors can swim, walk, jog and go horseback riding. Hökafältet has a 2.5-kilometre-long trail that is particularly suitable for wheelchairs, walking frames and pushchairs. A birdwatching tower stands in the northern part of Hökafältet at Lagaoset.

Trails

Åkulla bokskogar has nine largely interconnected walking trails. In winter, cross-country skiing is possible there, while in summer there are several bathing spots. The Toppbjär Reserve in Åkulla is home to the “Bexell’s Talking Stones” – inscriptions carved into rocks and cliffs.

The marked Hallandsleden trail currently runs for around 450 kilometres through the inland areas of Halland. The eastern and western routes meet again in the Åkulla area. The route and division into sections of the Hallandsleden are closely coordinated with public transport, making it easier to travel to and from the trail. The trail passes through landscapes featuring old transport routes, ancient monuments, historic buildings and signposted attractions.

Stättareds 4H-gård is a starting point for numerous hiking trails. At Stora Hornsjön, the facility rents out canoes and a rowing boat.

Culture

Äskhult has four historic trails of varying lengths, with stations presenting the history and cultural landscape of the village. The events programme includes themed walks, Midsummer celebrations, a children’s day, a harvest festival, a storytelling café and a Christmas market.

Tjolöholms slott was designed in the Tudor style with influences from the Arts and Crafts movement. Tjolöholms slott is also a cultural and historical setting unique in Sweden. The cultural landscape of Tjolöholm includes numerous stone-paved walking trails.

Hallands Konstmuseum in Halmstad presents several exhibitions running in parallel, often based on its extensive collection of art from Halland. The collection includes painting, sculpture, graphic art, photography, handicrafts and architecture, among other works. The museum offers family activities such as stories for families, challenging art puzzles and free creative work in the studio.

Varberg Fortress has been transformed step by step into a place for cultural experiences and beautiful views.

Leisure

Kattegattleden is Sweden’s first national cycling trail. It offers 390 kilometres of cycling through a distinctive coastal landscape.
