Nature

At Klyftehög, the highest point of Galgberget, there is a 13-metre-high observation tower with views over Halmstad and the Kattegat. Galgberget is also a natural area covering just over 66 hectares. The Hagön Nature Reserve likewise showcases various types of landscape: it includes sand dunes, heathland and wet meadows. There are a total of 57 nature reserves in the Halmstad area.

Five different park rhododendron species grow in Rhododendronparken, along with cherry trees, around 40 Japanese katsura trees and birches. The path from the car park to Rhododendronparken is adapted for accessibility and suitable for wheelchairs, rollators and prams. The Möllegård Nature Reserve has many easy-to-walk paths. Marked trails and paths for shorter and longer hikes also run through Halmstad Municipality.

The Assman River runs through the nature reserve and forms one of Halland's few waterfalls there, with a drop of 36 metres. The Nissan is 186 kilometres long and is also one of the area's defining waterways.

Coast and water

Östra Stranden is a shallow bathing beach east of the harbour area. The beach at Tylösand is patrolled by lifeguards and forms part of a four-kilometre-long stretch of beach. A 200-metre-long underwater route with ten information boards is marked by buoys on the surface and a line underwater.

In Simlångsdalen, you can fish, paddle and swim in the elongated lake system. Halmstad Municipality also has 14 fishing spots where fishing is permitted with a fishing licence. For water activities and swimming, Halmstad Arena Bad offers water slides, water cannons, a white-water ride, a lazy river and bubble zones. It also has a children's area, a lap pool and a diving pool.

Trails

Prins Bertils stig runs from Halmstad Castle to Möllegård. A marked hiking trail leads through the landscape between Hagön and Brogård. For cyclists, it is relevant that all major cycle routes in Halland pass through Halmstad Municipality.

Hallands kustväg runs between Halmstad and Falkenberg. Along this route, you can stop at a café, buy locally produced products such as marmalade, juice and jam, and view art in a mill.

Culture

Halmstad Castle was completed in 1619 as a pleasure palace for entertainment and recreation. Self-guided audio tours are available there; part of the east wing is open year-round, and guided tours also take place in summer. Norre Port is the only surviving one of Halmstad's four historic city gates and was completed in 1601.

Snöstorps kyrka is a hexagonal church designed by the Swedish architect Emil Viktor Langlet and completed in 1883. In Picasso Park on the Nissan in Halmstad stands Picasso's 15-metre-high work „Kvinnohuvud“. Hallands Konstmuseum displays an extensive collection of Hallandish paintings, as well as works by the Söndrum Colony and the Halmstad Group. Mjellby konstmuseum is dedicated to surrealist art and has an extensive collection of artworks by the Halmstad Group.

Vargaslätten consists of a woodland garden, a museum and a plant nursery. Thus, in addition to the historic buildings and art collections, landscaped gardens and museum sites are also central attractions.
