Art and Historical Traces in Väskinde

Construction of Brucebo began in 1900, initiated by Carolina Benedicks Bruce (1856–1935) from Stockholm and her Canadian husband William Blair Bruce (1859–1906). The couple worked at Brucebo and created a large number of paintings and sculptures there, which can still be viewed today. Konstnärshemmet Brucebo is a museum where guided tours can be booked year-round. This adds a cultural perspective to the natural surroundings.

Väskinde Church also preserves important historical clues. Remains of an older apse church were discovered within its walls; it was probably built at the beginning of the 12th century. In 1953, a Futhark inscription designated G 258 was discovered in the plaster surface of the inclusorium. A picture stone documented near Väskinde Church remains in situ and is used as a reused threshold. These details show how differently traces of earlier times can be expressed in one place.
