Discover the Middle Ages and the Iron Age

Stånga kyrka was built entirely in the Middle Ages and is one of Gotland’s large churches. There is an approximately 800-metre-long cultural trail on the hillfort. The combination of an open-air museum, a reconstructed farmstead and a cultural trail provides various opportunities to explore historical themes not only through buildings, but also through paths and landscapes.

Sport, Exercise and Leisure

Stangmalmen is a large sports field in Stånga parish. The area covers 115,000 square metres, equivalent to around 19 football pitches. Traditional sports such as pärk and varpa are played there. Those interested in physical activity in the countryside will find Stånga Naturstig listed in Region Gotland’s network of walking trails.

The Stånga Bowlinghall offers a different kind of activity. You can go bowling there; the hall also hosts, among other things, corporate events and children’s birthday parties. Day visitors are also welcome to take part in activities at Gumbalde Resort. Gumbalde Golf Resort has a golf course designed by Pierre Fulke. The resort also offers two outdoor padel courts next to the resort.

Local Character and Trip Planning

Part of Stånga’s culinary and architectural character is the restaurant at Gumbalde. It is located in a Gotland limestone building with origins dating back to the 17th century. The restaurant also aims to use seasonal ingredients from local cultivation.

A special annual event is the Stångaspelen, held every year in July and established in 1924. If you choose your travel dates carefully, you can take this recurring event into account when planning.
