The Fiestas Patronales of San Bartolomé take place every year in August in honour of the saint after whom the town is named. In the Casa Grande neighbourhood, the Sagrada Familia is celebrated.
Festivals, processions and local traditions
In recent years, the Retreta has been considered the highlight of the Fiestas Patronales. Around twenty days beforehand, participants meet to make their costumes themselves. The programme of the Medio Año Festero also included a fancy-dress Retreta, accompanied by a Charanga and prizes.
The Medio Año Festero also included a Tardeo with music and entertainment, as well as activities and workshops for children. A Romería began at the Ermita de La Cruz; during it, participants could donate non-perishable food to San Bartolomé. The programme ended with a mass at the Iglesia de San Bartolomé and included the fourth edition of Cañatapa in a municipal marquee at the Centro Cívico.
The various types of events can be distinguished by fixed programme items, music, fancy dress, religious celebrations and community activities. This results in a broad range of options for choosing according to the daily schedule and personal interests: festive processions and music take place alongside religious services, a performance with a fixed time slot and a walking format in the Huerta. The offerings therefore differ in occasion, schedule, location and time constraints.
Culture and fixed dates
On 26 April 2025, from 11:00 to 13:00, a performance and demonstration of the traditional game El Tranco, open to all age groups, took place in Parque de La Cruz. This clearly defined time slot distinguishes the event from the seasonally changing service times of the Parroquia de San Bartolomé.
The parish offers regular services: from Tuesday to Saturday at 19:00 in winter and at 20:00 in summer. On Sundays and public holidays, services begin at 11:30 in winter and at 9:00 in summer.
Walks through the Huerta
The Paseos Solidarios include a short explanatory talk and a visit to the facilities of the animal protection organisation. On these walks, participants can enjoy a family-friendly walk through the Huerta of Orihuela together with a dog available for adoption in San Bartolomé.
