La Nucia: Mountain Biking, Culture and Holiday Apartments

The La Nucía MTB network comprises four circular mountain biking routes with different difficulty levels. They start at a trailhead with a bicycle repair station, route maps and information boards, and lead through the bike park. The bike park is a forest park for mountain bikes with five descents and wooden features designed for different skill levels.

Nature and Trails

At CEM El Captivador, a visitor-oriented complex conveys the nature as well as the Mediterranean and local history of La Nucía through educational, tourism and sociocultural programmes. The site includes an arboretum that serves as a botanical garden for the conservation, study and communication of plant diversity. Font de la Favara has a five-metre-high waterfall, a garden with native species, a picnic area, swings and panoramic views of La Nucía and the comarca.

The La Nucía hiking trail network includes rest and picnic areas, viewpoints, birdwatching hides, observation towers, recreational areas and an accessible route. It also includes four signposted trails with a total length of 21 km. The Senda Local is 14.13 km long and passes through La Nucía’s natural, historical and cultural sights. The accessible Senda Adaptada El Captivador is 520 m long and includes a birdwatching hide, a rest and picnic area, a wooden bridge and a display of native plant species. Culture and History

The Iglesia de la Purísima Concepción on Plaça Major dates from the 18th century. Its stone staircase reflects the former importance of stonemasonry and stone-cutting in La Nucía. The Ermita de Sant Vicent del Captivador was built in 1804. The annual festival in honour of San Vicente Ferrer takes place there on the Monday after Easter, attended by people from La Nucía, Altea and Alfaz del Pi.

The Llavador de la Favara was established at the beginning of the 20th century to enable part of La Nucía’s population to collect water and wash clothes. This was before La Nucía’s houses were connected to the water supply in the 1960s. In 2023, the Llavador was restored and upgraded as a tourist and cultural attraction. The Museo Etnológico José Soler has a permanent exhibition in three rooms, as well as an outdoor exhibition on traditional culture and customs, traditional occupations and trades of the comarca, and agriculture and livestock farming.

The Auditori de la Nucia offers residents and tourists performances in ballet, dance, music and theatre, including performances by international artists.

Festivals and Sport

La Nucía’s main August festival days take place from 14 to 18 August in honour of the Virgen de la Asunción and San Roque. The programme includes processions, concerts, a fancy-dress parade and Mascletaes, among other events, which tourists can also attend. La Nucía’s Mercado Medieval has been held since 2005 on the weekend closest to 9 July. Every Sunday, Avenida Porvilla hosts a large flea market for second-hand goods.

Ciudad Deportiva Camilo Cano is the central venue of La Nucía Ciudad del Deporte, which offers numerous sports activities and facilities in natural surroundings.

Getting There

By car, La Nucía can be reached via the A-7 Mediterranean Motorway, exit 65. The N-332 connects the town with Alicante and Valencia. The nearest bus stations are in Benidorm, 8.6 km away, and in Alicante, 51.8 km away.
