The Museo del Terremoto is located in Almoradí, in the last surviving rebuilt house dating from the period after the 1829 earthquake. The visit lasts approximately 45 minutes, is only possible with advance reservation and is limited to a maximum of six people per visit.
Culture
The parish church of San Andrés is considered the most important surviving architectural monument in Almoradí’s historic urban fabric. The Azud de Alfeitamí is one of the most significant irrigation structures along the lower course of the Segura; its earliest versions date from the late 16th century. The Juzgado Privativo de Aguas del Azud de Alfeitamí manages and distributes irrigation water within its area of jurisdiction.
The Feria and the Fiestas de Moros y Cristianos combine religious tradition, the identity of the Huerta, a historic fair, music and broad participation by the population. The Fiestas de Moros y Cristianos have been held since 1978. The Casino Society of Almoradí was founded in 1882 and later developed into a historic venue for dances, carnival celebrations, discussion groups and presentations.
Trails
The Ruta del Agua is a visitor trail through Almoradí’s irrigation heritage. Among other places, it passes the old bridge, irrigation channels, drainage ditches and viewpoints overlooking the Huerta, as well as passing through the town centre.
The Ruta de La Huerta – El Paisaje de Sequeros is an approximately four-kilometre circular route through traditional farmland and the area’s native fauna and flora. The Ruta de Los Mazones follows the historic Colada de los Pastores livestock trail, passes through Almoradí and can be completed in about two hours. Nature
The protected Hoyo Serrano natural area was designated in 1994, covers approximately 85 hectares and lies 42 percent within the municipality of Almoradí. Aleppo pine shapes the landscape in Hoyo Serrano; the area has an ecosystem with amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.
The Sotos along the Segura River are restored riverside areas along the river and form part of a Green Corridor. They include, among other things, picnic areas and children’s play areas. The Árbol de los Mazones was planted almost a century ago and is one of the last monumental trees in the comarca.
Everyday Life and Cuisine
Almoradí’s weekly market takes place on Saturdays, extends for more than one kilometre and was awarded the distinction of a market of provincial tourist interest in 2011. Pava borracha is traditionally served in three courses, or “vuelcos”.
